First time poster. I have had BIAB for a few years and am very impressed by what it can do but really getting frustrated trying to use it. I have version 2010.5 (304) that I just upgraded to and am hoping this will take care of the total freeze up of my PC BIAB does almost every time I use it.
But the first issue I need help on, if I am even going to dig into the freezing issue, is an echoing that is driving my crazy. I have done alot of searching in the forum and before that a whole lot of searching in teh options window. This is pretty much my setup and tell me if I need to give any more information.
- Windows 7 Home Premuim Service Pack 1 - Toshiba Satellite L445 - BIAB 2010.5 (304) - Alesis Quadrasynth - E-mu Xmidi 1x1 Tab (This connects my PC to my Quadrasynth)
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Jim Lee

I would love to do that but I am not sure how. If you are referring to the reverb and chorus buttons on the Quadrasynth, those are turned off. What I have is a midi keyboard that is connected to the QS. The sound is absolutely normal when I play this way. As soon as I attache the midi interface mentioned above and am playing through BIAB the echoing begins on all channels.
I have used BIAB before without the echoing. And I am not talking about one echo. I am talking about multiple echoes.
Thanks, Jim Lee

Welcome to the forum, Jim. John is probably right, but it would help clarify if you told us WHAT is echoing. We're assuming you mean your MIDI keyboard. EDIT: I see you posted again. OK.
As far as freezing, a common cause in any audio software is device drivers. Are all yours up to date?

I would guess the midi is going into the QS from the keyboard, going out to BiaB, and then from BiaB back to the synth again creating the echo (and back from the synth to BiaB and back again); a midi loop.
Can you connect the keyboard to BiaB input, then connect BiaB output to the synth? That way the 'midi thru' of the synth is eliminated, thus eliminating the loop.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Make sure in the midi driver settings (Opts Prefs Midi) that the loop thru is not checked.
And Dxi is unchecked too.

John Conley's loop thru suggestion would probably work too.

"Make sure in the midi driver settings (Opts Prefs Midi) that the loop thru is not checked. "
I don't see a 'loop thru' checkbox on the window title "Midi/Audio Drivers Setup". BUT my echoing went away...I am not sure why.
Next challenge is that since my Quadrasynth appears to be to ancient to be listed in the same screens "General MIDI Instruments Misc" pull down I want to keep BIAB from sending any patch changes to my Quadrasynth as whenever that happens it ends up setting channel(s) to "Perihelion" which is a nerve wracking sound that I have grown to cringe at. I believe its only significance is that it is the very first sound on the main bank of the synth.
Here is what I have done to try to turn off all patch changes:
Options/Preference/Midi Options....then made sure that all the checkbox's on the right that start with the option "Allow ANY patch changes" are unchecked.
Is there anything else I need to do to prevent all patch changes? I think that even if it is only changing the style it sends a signal for a channel to change and most of the time it changes to the dreaded 'Perihelion' sound. If I was smart enough I guess I would delete that sound from the synth.
Question: Is there any entry in the above mentioned "General MIDI Instruments Misc" that would at least come close to my Quadrasynth bank? Or, is there anyone out there using a quadrasynth that has come up with one of whatever files those are on their own?
Thanks to all very, very much. I am overwhelmed by the responses. I wish I had known about this forum long ago.
Jim Lee

Actually I think this is how I am connected right now. I have a keyboard that is connected to the EMU USB interface to BIAB, then BIAB output goes to the Quadrasynth.

There are patch maps under support with the following listed which may work with your system.
Patch File for Synth PAT INI DK Alesis Nanosynth (12K) Created by Dave Halterman .pat .ini Alesis NanoPiano (12K) .pat .ini Alesis QS6 (15K) .pat .ini
You just need to follow a few instructions to get them to work.
You may find that checking the Dxi synth box and switching to the Forte option might sound better. Or not. I have some hard synths and soft synths...depending on the system I'm using.

Unfortunately I don't think you will find a patchmap that will match the quadrasynth. They quickly changed the patch layouts in the QS series to work with General Midi. That was a huge shortfall for the quadrasynth at the time (IMO). Even the QuadrasynthPlus changed the patch layout (before the QS series was even started).
It is possible to create one and many of us here have done so, which is why there are so many in the support section; they were done by other users. They are essentially just text files with an ini filename extension. You have to be careful with formatting, but it is explained pretty well in the ini files you have, or any you download. It does take a bit of understanding how MIDI and patch banks work though.

Got it about the patches. I think that I actually created one years ago. Now my issue is after copying over the above mentioned .pat files my display is wasted. By wasted I mean you can not see the chords on the main screen and it is a mess. Not usable. I deleted the .pat files that I copied into c:\bb but the display remains useless.
- Is there some issue(s?) using BIAB 2010.5 with Windows 7 Home Premium. It often locks up this laptop tight as a drum so that I have to do a cold boot.
- Is there any software that is similar to this but not as complex and buggy?
- Is there a file in the main c:\bb directory that I can delete and BIAB may start up with a usable screeen?
I realize I am being very needy but I really would like to use this software but my patience is wearing pretty thin at this point.
Thanks, Jim Lee

There are people here who know which files to delete so BiaB resets itself. I'm not 100% on it so I'll let someone else chime in.
As far as another software, have you tried Realband that came with BiaB. It is a little different and runs well on Win7 here. You can still generate parts, etc. Actually it's a little more flexible in some ways, but not as convenient in others. Worth checking out.
You can actually open BiaB files in Realband
In support section it says sometimes deleting 'intrface.bbw' will cause a reset. Can you restore the original ini file?

Opt, Return to Factory Settings seems to recreate that intrface.bbw file. Yes, deleting it would be the 'old' way to reset, and perhaps the only way if you can't start the program.

Hi sasji,
I notice that ou are using Windows 7.
*Important: Are you using Windows 7 32 bit or Windows 7 64 bit?
*When you installed BiaB, did you install it to the Program Files folder? If so, this can be problematic. Installing BB to C:/bb all in its own folder is preferred. This is because BB must write to certain files when opening and closing and the security stuff included with Windows 7 doesn't like to let that happen to folders stored in Program Files.
*Many of us have found that it is best to turn off User Account Control (UAC). May not be needed in all cases, but worth a try if all else fails.
