"Whenever BiaB starts doing strange things that it is not supposed to do, first try a reboot of the computer. If that doesn't do the trick then go inside BiaB to Options -> Return to Factory Settings and try that, as there are data files that BiaB must be able to write to in order to save Preferences, etc. and if BB should ever run out of resources or crash, freeze, or otherwise exit ungracefully it does not have the time to write to that critical file and the data gets truncated."

Those who try to avoid the Return to Factory Settings using the excuse that they don't want to lose their personal settings and have to enter them all over again do not have to worry about that if they visit the routine when all is working and use the utility to save a snapshot of their personal settings first. After you do that, the Return to "Factory" Settings is really a return to the baseline of your personal settings and all should stay the way you like it to be anyway.

Sounds like you need to do the Return to Factory Settings at this point. Works more than 90% of the time in cases like this one.

As for the Help File, if the Return to Factory does not make it work right, you likely will have to do a reinstall of BiaB from your install files. Okay to just reinstall right overtop of itself, no need to uninstall or anything like that.
