Hi All,

Just to let you know that there is a new version 316b that is newer than the one at the top of this forum.
The one at the top says April 21st but there is a version 316b dated April 26th.

Fixed: "imple" typo in Song Settings dialog. (April 26)
Fixed: Timing for MIDI songs generated on the iPhone is improved. (April 21)
Fixed: Some Bass RealTracks like #369 weren't playing chords like Fm7/C correctly. (April 21)

Best regards
George

How about a fix to the Melody Drag and drop? Or maybe this is not yet fully confirmed to be an bug since it only seems to be reported in Illinois and New Jersy.

Melody track will not Drag and Drop

Hi jazzmandan,

I have tried the midi melody drag and drop in the latest version 316b dated 26th April and have to report that you can drag a midi melody as midi but you can't drag a midi melody as Audio it just produces a blank audio file.
In fact it doesn't produce any Audio file.

I cleaned out my drag and drop folder and loaded in a midi file in Band In a Box then tried to drag the midi melody (worked fine).
I then dragged the midi as Audio by holding the control key down.
It looked as if it worked but it just placed an empty file into my Daw (even when I saw it creating the file in the top portion of the title bar).
On checking my drag and drop folder it only showed the midi file.
It didn't show any Audio file.

So, no it's not fixed yet.

Best regards
George

Thank you George for the continuing confirmation of this bug.

I will add Scotland to both Illinois and New Jersey

Just tried to Drag & Drop my Combo into SONAR X1. Latest versions of both programs.

The operation aborted. I got a message, Object Not Found.

I'll try it again...

I can confirm that bug as well. I've also been having problems rendering any MIDI in a song with both MIDI and RT.

Thanks for the heads up.

A gentle procedural critique of PG, if I may: re. releasing an update with the same build id as the prior patch. IIRC, it's happened once or twice before. Not a good idea! The change might be minimal, but the user doesn't necessarily know that. Lots of potential for confusion. I hope it's not becoming a habit.

The "b" stands for BETA...

From Andrew's post: "We are using the "b" to indicate that some files have changed since the build 316 release on April 19."

I do realize that a new patch is usually noted as being considered beta. But seems like that advisory is rarely, if ever, removed. So we cautious types, who are reluctant to install a beta, are never sure when the patch is considered "production." Usually, the beta-notification sticks until the next patch. Which is then also labeled as beta.

Maybe that's the point? Every new patch is, and remains, beta *until* it's replaced by the next patch? So if the entire user base is testing a beta, what do the beta testers do...? <= note smiley please.

-Ron

(...who, despite appearances, usually installs new patches soon as they're posted... Hence my initial concern about keeping build designations unique.)

I'm not sure who is kidding here, but sometimes a beta version just 'becomes' a non-beta version after enough time has elapsed. It does not necessarily have to wait until the next build. The 'advisory' is removed. I've seen this maybe twice now.

The only way to track it is to query the Updates page regularly. As in this case, sometimes there are minor changes that are unannounced or unnoticed for a bit.

Ron, your suggestion about the build naming conventions has also been mentioned before. I would prefer to have a new build number whenever there is any change at all, but PG Music has their own criteria, and it hasn't caused me any problems.

Hi,

Band-in-a-Box 2011 Build 316b is available

This is considered to be a BETA update because it is new.

We are using the "b" to indicate that some files have changed since the build 316 release on April 19.

Summary of Changes for 2011 Build 316b (April 21, 2011)

Fixed: Timing for MIDI songs generated on the iPhone is improved.

Fixed: Some Bass RealTracks like #369 weren't playing chords like Fm7/C correctly.

In the past, BETA versions of updates have been issued in the same fashion, no?

I would expect the b to be dropped at some point, leaving only the number, but all that is up to pgmusic, of course.

For me, the real issue is that once you install it, and then run "Help, About", it says build 316. So you don't know whether you installed the original build 316 or the new 316b. I think this one took us by surprise because it is a new version of a build that had already been released. Usually, the betas are released as a new number, but as a "b" (for beta update), and then eventually drop the "b" as a final update. We don't often see a "b" version for a build that has already been released.

I believe the whether you use the same number or a new number, you should be able to see the correct installed version when you select "Help, About". There should be no confusion there. Having unique numbers helps in that regard.

John, +1

As I said above, I would prefer to have a new build number whenever there is any change at all.

Nothing to lose by doing that; there is no shortage of available numbers.

Befuddled: "BIAB will not ____"
JFord: "What version of BIAB are you using?"
Befuddled: "The latest one."
Matt Finley: "Just to be clear, which one is that?"
Befuddled: "b"
JFord: "Which 'b' is that? The first one or the second one?"
Befuddled: "How do I tell?"
CuteShorts: "Find the best in used cars at wwww.cuteshorts.com/special"
JFord: "Go to Help, About."
Befuddled: "OK, it says Build 316."
JFord: "But, when did you download it? April 15, April 21, or April 26?"
Mac: "b stands for beta."
Befuddled: "I'm not sure."
Rharv: "It's not my fault."
George Nelson: "Does it say 'imple' or not?"

and so on...
