Hello all.

I am trying to arrange a song that has a hammer-on effect on two chords, i.e., I need two chords to play in the same beat of a 4/4 measure. I have tried using the "^", but can't get the timing right. Any help?

Thanks.

I don't think that is possible at this point in time without resorting to doing the entire song in doubletime with each bar representing half of the original tempo's bar.

Forcing a Hammer-on is likely not possible to do easily either.

If your piece of music permits it, use RealBand. It will still be some trial and error. You may put the first chord on a different track (using the same instrument) and the second is on the regular track for that instrument -- pushed back a little to achieve the effect.

I haven't tried it, it's just wild guessing that it might work. The general public will not hear the jerryrigging.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm just going to program the hammer-ons one note at a time in Sonar. I just wish it were possible in BIAB.

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely LOVE BIAB and RB! I can't get out of the studio since I got it!

That is one way to do it. Another way is Sonar is to extend the note(s) forward to where you want the hammer-on to start then do a very quick pitch bend.

I’ll explain. Say you have your pitch bend setting at 1000 = ½ step and you want a 1/2 step hammer-on. Then at the start of the hammer-on insert a pitch bend setting of –1000. At the end of the hammer on set it at 0. Make sure there is no pitch bend settings between those two. I have used this method in the past.

I hope this helps - MarioD

You can do it one note at a time in BIAB, but really only on the Soloist or Melody track (you can make changes to the other tracks only as long as they are frozen). Using the Piano Roll window, you can move notes forward and back in time pretty easily, as well as do pitch bends. Check out Piano Roll in the help system.

Thanks John. I haven't gotten into step sequencing in BIAB yet, although I've done it for years in Sonar.
The two programs integrate really well though. I will explore that avenue.

Hello,

If you desire to have two chords in a single beat, one possible option is to halve the tempo of the song (this would probably require some reinstrumentation). This could effectively offer the equivalent of 2 eighth-note chords. Probably not the exact effect you're looking for, but it's an option.

Thanks,
Evan
