Greetings: I am trying to decide whether or not I should buy Band in a box. I am learning to play jazz. I already have Cubase. I use Cubase for composing mostly. But is Band in a Box something that is much easier to use? Intuitive? etc?

Or why not just use Jamey Abersold stuff?

Thanks Jeff jeffreywharrison@gmail.com

Cubase is a DAW, right?
and JA Stuff - books and backing recordings, right?

Neither of these is a substitute for BIAB. Perhaps you need to better understand what this program does.
There are lots of Demo videos available for you to see this program in action. Here is a little example from my achives -

Using the F5- who plays what and when

Good Luck,

BIAB – 2026, Reaper (current), i7-12700F Processor, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Motu Audio Express 6x6 - My SoundCloud.

Hi Jeff,

In response to your question, "Or why not just use Jamey Abersold stuff?",
BIAB can be Aebersold that is created and manipulated by YOU.
You have total control of rhythm style, tempo, key etc, etc etc.
So if you want the Aebersold type backgrounds to play along with
BIAB will do the job.
Grab a fake book, select the tunes you want, input the chords and create
your own backgrounds.

Hi Jeff,

You are comparing apples with oranges there. You don't need to choose one or the other, because they do different things. You can have them all and make a pretty good fruit salad.

It's sometimes hard to get a quick idea of how all the various types of software work, but if you read the MacWorld review that's recently been posted here it should give you a reasonable view. It may have moved down the list a bit, but you can see it if you click on this link:

The MacWorld Review

As the reviewer notes, the instructions are a bit daggy, and take some time to really work through, partly because the order of the explanations can be a bit odd at time. But the results you can get are well worth the effort.

Chris

Hey Folks thanks for the info.

So you all find that BIAB helps you to play jazz better? Is that right?

As far as Jamey Abersold stuff, what I don't like it is that you are locked into the key and tempo for the most part. With Cubase I can change those somewhat, but it sounds like BIAB is better equipped to modify tempo, key etc.

But Which Version should I buy???? I mean there are so many?

Any ideas?

Thanks Jeff
