I'm really just looking for an easy way to get drums for my songs, I have a drum machine and an older version of reason, but programming either one is very tedious and frustrating. Is there a trial version?

You can't get drum sounds like Real Tracks unless you can afford the best studio musicians available ! No drum machine will ever make a better sound ! But if you buy it you'll wonder how you ever made music without it ! Real Styles are so incredible and you'll see there's no way to come close to that without a lot of very talented musicians at your 24/7 beckoned call ! It's the only software you'll ever need to make studio quality recordings . But go big or you will have to get it all later (Everything Pack )cause there are never enough styles once you are hooked . Real Band is included a great DAW ,that goes great with Biab ! Tons of learning possibilities with charts that follow instruments ,and guitar fret based charts ! Just Get It ,if your not happy they refund you ! How can you lose ?

Thanks for the reply guys!!! Unfortunatly I'd only be able to afford the pro version, trying to get my condensor mic modded too. But if pro version will get me good drums for my brand of rock I'l definatly get it once my zoom g9.2tt gets sold.

Timmyg1978, if your drum machine has good sounds then the midi portion of BiaB will generate some outstanding drum parts. You can very easily modify midi drum parts via the piano roll window. Also you can purchase some very good midi drum files from places like Groovemonkee to use in addition too or in place of the BiaB parts. I’m not knocking RealDrums as they are excellent also but I’m just letting you know about other options. Personally I use all of the above!
PS – if your drum sounds suck then RealDrums is the only way to go right now!

My zoom mrt 3 only has midi in, but I also have a Yamaha dd 65 digital drum set. Would that work even though there's no sequencer on it? I might be able to squeeze enough for the megapack too if i wait til the first;^]

Tim, All you want is a program & Drums? Just get Power Tracks for now. It's a nice DAW AND has the ability to use RealDrums ( comes with 3 out of 29 sets) AND is only $49.00 And you can download it.Be forewarned though. You WILL be trying to sell a lot of stuff to get the BIAB Megapak.

Yes, a Zoom MRT3 will work. I have one that I used for a number of years!
BUT if you are close to getting the megapack then get it. It comes with a really good DAW (Digital Audio Work Station) called RealBand. With RealBand you can either mix midi drums using your Zoom MRT3 with RealDrums or use one or the other. You will have the best of both worlds. Plus at a later time, if need be, you can add other midi drum files.
However I’m willing to bet that after you get the megapack you will find more uses for it than just adding drums to your songs.
Also I should mention that this forum has the nicest and most helpful members of any forum I’ve been on. Feel free to ask any question here.
I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi, Your quest for a simple way to get drum tracks for your songs is probably a fairly common one. I'm in a similar position myself. But I found that the biggest problem wasn't really what software or equipment to use, it was not having a broad enough knowledge of drumming itself. If you know exactly what you want on a drum track then it's not too hard to build it, even if you put it down piece by piece with each bit of the kit on a separate track. You can do that with a wide range of software or hardware. For instance, you could write it out in drum notation (some free or cheap ways to do that), use the pads on a midi keyboard or even the keys on a regular computer keyboard. Or you could mic a drum kit and simply build up your own tracks, or loopable sections, bar by bar. Just to name a few ways. Editing midi drum tracks, or even audio ones, to get everything exactly in line is simple enough with modern software. But they all require that you know just what you want to achieve in the first place. I was never a huge fan of rock drumming, and didn't think I needed to know much about drums, or perhaps even to use them at all on songs. But I took 4 or 5 lessons from a professional drummer just to see what I could learn. What an ear opener that was! Sitting next to a really good drummer and not just hearing the sounds but feeling them as well changed my impression. You could also search round the internet and find any number of free midi drum tracks that you can use 'as-is' or edit to suit. There's even free on-line drum machines like Monkey Machine. But even then you're unlikely to find something that's a perfect fit without you editing it (unless you're content with either having exactly the same drumming all the way through the entire song, or else tailoring your song to fit whatever structure the track follows). So if you want something that will put together drum tracks in a range of styles, to suit your specified song structure, and do a good job of it, then BiaB will do it for you. But it will still make its own choices - it can't completely read your mind. This may be either an advantage or a disadvantage depending on what you're after. You'll also still have to put in a fair bit of study to learn how to use the program and edit or otherwise manipulate what final results you get. But whichever way you go, the knowledge of what you want from the drums through each section of your song, and the additional knowledge of how to work your equipment, is more important than the exact choice of gear. BiaB can make some good workable choices for you, if you in turn make the right choices when you tell it what to aim for. That may be enough for your purposes (it is a good program) or you may use it as a learning experience, listen carefully to what it does, and then learn how to tweak it a little more. That's a win/win too. That's how it has seemed to me anyway. Others may disagree and see it in other ways. Good luck with it all, Chris

Tim,
I haven't read completely through the previous posts so please excuse me if I repeat some of what has already been said.
I bought a floppy-based version of BIAB in the mid-1990s specifically because I was incapable of adding drums to my own creations. I also had a drum machine and felt that step programming was incredibly tedious.
Flash forward to today. I have BIAB 2009.5. I have also become a Reason user (still version 3). Most of my work is MIDI based. I have found that MIDI drum tracks will port quite nicely into Reason as long as you can find a GM drum patch. Some other tweaking is occasionally necessary, but I have found it to be entirely worthwhile.
In the interim, BIAB has completely changed the way I make music. It was originally intended to make demos. I now use it as an instrument in much the same way I use Reason. (I credit Reason with giving me the viewpoint to see it in this way.)
There is no demo version--it isn't feasible with Real Tracks--but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee. I don't see how you can lose. Give it a try, get active in the forums, and supercharge your music making.
Richard

I find that there is no one way i build drum tracks. I use Real drums, mnidi drums, GM sound sets, sample program, and even automated drum programs like Jamstix. I have drum sample disks, and thru it all i find what i want, er... most of the time anyway.
