thanks Rharv.....

how does it cope with your BIAB?
you do any home recording with it,how's that?
c/w with a good set of speakers (BX5a), how is the reproduction of general PC music, you know like rock and roll concerts DVDs and CDs?

my sound card has gone bye byes and i need a good modern replacement for my BIAB, GUITAR PRO 6.....
and i hopefully intend to join the home recording crowd sometime later this year.

i have had a good look at the 1010lt, i am just trying to see how this compares/performs.i will only be recording myself (guitar) at home

thanks guys

Great interface for use with BIAB and RealBand as well as other DAW's - good ASIO drivers. Been using it for 4-5 years without problems (recording guitar and vocals). M-Audio driver support is good.

The sound card doesn't know what you are passing through it. If you push signal through it, it reproduces that sound. DVD, CD, BIAB, computer sounds... it doesn't pick and choose what to handle well and what to handle less than well. It is a dumb piece of hardware made to translate signal into audio.

I am confused by everybody asking about speakers in conjunction with the sound card thread. Your speakers are what you speakers are with no regard to what sound card you use. They won't work (sound) better or worse depending on what sound card you are using. No more than a Les Paul will sound better than a Strat if the person playing is awful.

Also brings me to ask the question, how many of you feed right from a sound source to speakers without any kind of mixer? No use of digital reverb, EQs... any of that outboard processing? It's only because it's how I do it, but I can't imagine plugging a sound output device directly into near field monitors without pushing it through a 31 band EQ with a digital reverb looped through the effects bus on a mixer. And are your monitors powered? I use 100w Wharfedales, which I bought ONLY because I heard them in a friend's studio and the highs were crisp, the bottom was clean, and the slew rate when sending wide ranges of signal quickly was great. As is with all hardware, speaker advice is great to get from other users, but the only way to decide is to go hear them somewhere that you can compare different models side by side. That is not going to be possible everywhere depending on where you live. I have the benefit of living in a large city with audio stores that carry several models to test side by side. Though I DID have to order the Wharfedales...

I am getting the feeling here that this is about going from a sound card directly to a speaker and questioning where any sound shortcomings would come from. I may be wrong.

I am using the M-Audio Mobile Pre and it does not work well with BIAB or RB. Each time I sit down to record I have to call tech support and spend 10-15 minutes working out problems. The PG Music techs tell me that M-Audio has many problems with PG music software. They recommended one of the Tascam products instead. I love the PG Music software and have been recording with it for years

I have the original Fast Track USB, not the Pro and it performs well. I have been unable to use M-Audio's ASIO driver with Band in a Box, and for now have given up on that. I remember complaints on the prduct on user forums at the M-Audio site, but I haven't been there in a while. The driver problems and other issues may be cleared up by now. It might be worth a visit for you.

I personally know a fellow who has been using the M-Audio Fast Track Pro for over two years with his Toshiba laptop and Band in a Box and Powertracks.

He had problems with the setup at first that seemed unsolvable, but then Toshiba Support got on the line with him and updated something and its been smooth sailing ever since.
