She played every one of her many famous Bass sessions using a P-Bass and a guitar pick. She actually did subs for the great James Jamerson after Motown moved to the West Coast and, still using that pick, turned in some performances that people are still arguing over today, swearing up and down that it was indeed "St. James" on the session and not "some girl using a pick".
