No need to remove any files.
IF your current version is not 2011 and you are upgrading to 2011.5 from one of the previous versions, I recommend running the Installer even if you intend to only run the program from the external drive, but only check the PGMusic Fonts, PGMusic plugins and perhaps one of the DXi synths if needed, to your C: drive. That doesn't take up very much space at all and likely will be only replacing what is already there from a previous installation, but will assure you that you have the latest code changes that may be incorporated in those pieces of code.
Don't manually delete anything before doing this.
