Hi All

I just read the section in the BIAB User's Guide on "Section Paragraphs".

I have a couple of tunes that could benifit from this feature.
However, I am a bit confused on how to let BIAB know if the measure needing this feature is a 7, 5, 3, etc bar phrase, not the more common 4, 8, 12, bar phrase.

It sounds like it's determined by "Part Markers", but how do you distinguish between a 3 Bar phrase (with the last chord on the third measure playing for one measure), from a 4 bar phrase (with the last chord on the third measure playing for 2 measures)??

I hope this doesn't sound too confusing.

Harpo

Hi Harpo,

The below image is taken from part of one of my songs. As you can see, I started with a 3-bar intro.

By setting a part marker on bar 4, it automatically started a new line on the chord chart. Then I had a 10 bar verse and a part marker on the first bar following the verse so that the next new section would begin a new line. This is was PG Music mean by "section paragraphs" as far as I'm aware. They help to layout the music in chord view so that it's easy to see the sections.

Regards,
Noel

Part markers are more then a way to arrange the visual layout. The Midi Styles will react to a change in part marker. The drums will always lay down a fill in the bar just prior to the part marker (even if it is an part A to an part A). If avalable in the style the bass and piano will change it up, usually from a relaxed to a busier feel when you go from part A - part B. There are also some three part styles which change from A to B to C.

Oh and they do change the way the arrangement views.

Hi Noel!

Thanks for the clarification regarding the "section paragraphs"!

I have a tune that was arranged within BIAB 2007 and have been transferred into BIAB 2011.5.

I'm not sure if the 2007 version had this feature, but I wasn't aware of it, therefore the tune is written without the section paragraph feature.

So I assume if this feature was unavailable in BIAB 2007 I would have to re-write the tune over into BIAB 2011.5.

Is this correct?

I am reasonably certain version 2007 did not have this feature.

I don't think you would have to rewrite the entire tune to get the section marker/paragraphs in it on the later version. That is actually a Global situation, so all you would have to do, theoretically, is open the songfile in the newer version and there should be paragraph divisions there for every part marker.

Of course, if you then decide that you want a division somewhere and there was no part marker there, just insert a part marker at the beginning of the next bar and then be sure to Save the songfile like that.
