Hi Folks:

Signal paths have always been hard for me to understand. I am using a Ketron SD-2 external sound module and I'm wondering if I render (PG calls it recording) an All Midi song the output would include the Ketron. I do have an audio recorder that records 'WHAT I HEAR' i.e. the sound coming from the Ketron, but I would rather use BIAB render. Will BIAB render give me the same output, i.e. what I hear. I know I've been a little redundant here but I want to make sure I am understood. If someone could show me the signal path it would be appreciated. I just thought of another way to put it: Would the render be the same signal as the signal going to my speakers?

I understand what you are asking and the answer is No. Render will only use a softsynth such as a Dxi plugin. Render will not record the sounds form your external device or your speakers.

BIAB – 2026, Reaper (current), i7-12700F Processor, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Motu Audio Express 6x6 - My SoundCloud.

Thank you Jazzman for that answer. So, if I instead Record 'WHAT I HEAR' with Total Recorder or other Audio Recording software I will then get the output from the KETRON?? What i hear is coming from the Speakers and the speakers are getting it's input from my USB External Sound Card which is getting it's input from the KETRON. Can you give a 'yea' on that???

Hi Bert,

Yep. If you record what you hear, you'll record what's coming through the speakers.

All the best,
Noel

Wow.

The Ketron has to go back into the computer. The wiring is different.

The midi stream of data goes to the Ketron Box, does the wire from the box go to the computer?

Explain how you get your sound to your speakers, and what type of gear is between your ears and your speakers?

Sorry Bert. Seems that I didn't fully appreciate your set-up. John Conley is a bit of wiz at these things.

Regards,
Noel

No but re-reading my post I note that I have an upright piano between my speakers. As to between my ears...

Note that I did make a resolution not to use an ellipsis in my writing however...

We just need to know what happens to the wires coming OUT of the rca jacks on the Ketron and if indeed they end up back inside the computer.

Noel, thanks for your help. This is so confusing to me.

JOHN:

The RCA output jacks from the KETRON are going directly into my Turtle Beach USB (can I dare say) Soundcard). Line out of Sound Card directly to my Harmon-Kardon Sound Stick speakers. And John, the WHIZ thanks much for your input. Any other info you need please ask...I wanna get to the bottom of this.

To be honest I'm somewhat lazy this way, but I just fire up Audacity, and hit record (make sure it's stereo) then I hit play in Band in a Box.

Audacity is a free program to download, and it is easy to use.

John, I have that program but it's just been sitting there in the Task Bar....I think I'll just take it for a spin. I had been using Total Recorder to record 'WHAT I HEAR' but I'll give Audacity a try. Thanks John and remember:

Noel, seems like you were right all along. Though John had a point about maybe the sound output from the Ketron was going back into the computer which was not the case here. Thanks for your input.

Isn't a Ketron just a MIDI driven sound generation device like the old Yamaha FB-01 and Roland MT-32? Just much better than the 20 year old technology of the 2 devices I named (and still have)?

Yes, that it is Eddie and I might add a mighty fine MIDI driven sound generation device. I haven't tried them all Eddie or heard them all but for the money to me at least this is the best Sounding sound module.
