Hi Real Band Users,

I need forum help to confirm some (four) problems I have in Real Band. I think they're program bugs. I'd appreciate some of you taking the time to verify the following (FYI: I'm using BIAB 2009 (282) & Real Band 2009 (1). It would help for you to do a print out to follow the steps below.

Problem One - Endings: Real Band does not complete a two bar ending as in BIAB
1. In BIAB, write a two bar song, any chords. Set for a two bar ending on any chord.
2. For reference, use the C_Travis sytle. Play repeatedly and listen to the two bar endings. BIAB plays a different "arrangement" each time as expected. Note that the second bar of the ending always completes playing its notation.
3. Repeat in Real Band.
4. For me - the second bar of the ending never completes. At most, only the first note of the second bar plays and abruptly ends.
5. For even better comparison, you can save in BIAB as a SGU and as a KAR file, then open each in Real Band. The Kar file is especially revealing because it opens in Real Band, showing all of the expected notation in the final ending bar.

Problem Two - Metronome: Preference settings have no affect
1. Go to Prefs\Song Generation. Uncheck "Allow Real Tracks" and "Allow Real Drums".
2. With these prefs set, nothing I've tried changes the way the metronome functions. It continues to click no matter what combination of buttons are pressed.
3. Compare this to BIAB and you'll see/hear completely different behavior.
4. I want to silence the metronome! How can I do this?
5. FYI: Bar Offset is: -2 (preferred by me).

Problem Three - Real Drum Track Endings: Track ending position changes (alternates position) each time the song is reopened
1. In Prefs\Song Generation, make sure that "Allow Real Tracks" and "Allow Real Drums" are both checked.
2. Open or create a short file.
3. Do not play the song yet! Observe the real drum track that was generated and note its end position in relationship to the MIDI tracks.
4. Now reopen the song and make the same observation.
5. Keep repeating this (reopen & observe end position of Real Drum track).
6. Problem (that I have): Each time the song is reopened, the real drum track end position toggles to one of two alternating positions. If you see the same thing, then you need no further explanation.
7. If you see what I see, you can hit play in either of these alternating modes and see that as long as the song remains open, all regen's end in the same position.

Problem Four - Real Drum Track Title: Drum track title does not change when a new style is generated
1. Open or create a short song in Real Band.
2. Generate a Real Drum track and confirm that the track title shows the drum style name that you picked.
3. Now pick another drum style and regenerate the track.
4. Look at the drum track title. For me, it doesn't change. The actual drum track has changed, but the title doesn't change no matter how many times I change the actual drum style.
5. Note: Real Track titles change properly as expected when a new style is picked and regenerated. The problem only happens with Real Drums.

Thanks for your time and feedback!

Don

Hello Don,

Thanks for reporting those.

Regarding #2: The metronome is working correctly in my testing, whether or not RT/RD are disabled. Perhaps you are referring to the 2-bar count-in, which is separate from the metronome. There are a couple of ways you could get rid of it and still keep the 2 bars at the start of your song - (1) set your bar offset to 0, then Edit-Insert 2 blank bars at bar 1 after you generate your song, or (2) Click on the Snap button in the Tracks window, select bars 1 and 2 of the drum track, and Edit-Cut[keep gap].

Andrew,

Thanks for the reply, but I'm asking that you take another look. There is a button, "Silent Count In". It doesn't silence the count in. It does in BIAB. Many songs use pick up notes. When they are opened, it shouldn't be necessary to add, cut, or otherwise make changes when silence is expected during the first two pick up bars.

Thanks again for testing and comments.

Don

Hello Don,

The metronome (and all the settings in that dialog) are distinct from the lead-in generated with styles. It would be good to have an option for no lead-in, but currently (if the style has pick-up notes) you would need to erase the drum lead-in after you generate. This can be done by highlighting the first 2 bars of the drum track and using Edit | Cut.

Hi Andrew,

I understand your comments. Surely you must see the problem with this. If anyone uses Real Band in a live situation and requires the two bar lead in for the pick up notes, they're stuck with the click, clack of the wachamaycallit. If this was my "Real Band" and the drummer kept doing this, I'd break his/her sticks! The "Silent Count In" metronome preferences button is ambiguous to say the least. Again - no problem in BIAB. I hope this gets changed, but will work around it till then.

Question: Did you confirm that the other three things that I reported are problems (not mine alone) to be fixed?

Best regards,

Don

In my copy of RealBand, if I hit Preferences -> Metronome-> Metronome Settings I see "Allow coutin before playback" which can be unchecked.

There is also a "Silent Countin" checkbox there.

Just checked, it works okay here.

*If you are using a RealDrums track, the countin will be recorded as .wav data. Simply highlight the first two bars there and either lower the volume to nothing using the PianoRoll CC7 Audio, returning it to the correct level at the start of bar three (with mousedraws) or simply highlight and erase the countin data on the track.

Hi Mac,

Sorry, I replied to you in another place about this.

Anyway, you understood and said no problem there.

Hm, perhaps I have a corrupted Real Band file. When things get goofy in BIAB, deleting "interface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" files usually fixes things up. Do you know of similar files in Real Band? I've searched, but didn't find anything that looked similar. Tomorrow I may try a test running from the original PG Music hard drive.

Don,

Take a look at the Powertracks FAQ on which files can be removed from the folder to do a reset. They are the same as far as I know.

Or -- simply reinstall RealBand right overtop of itself.

Either way, with the 2nd method being likely the surefire way to go right now.
