Hi,
I'm brand new to BIAB and RealBand, but I've been making good progress in using this unusual program. My question: I have a BIAB song which uses a RealTracks jazz quartet and it appeared to be working fine. However -- without my having done anything that I'm aware of -- there are duplicates of several instruments. That is, I hear two acoustic basses, two guitars, etc. If I mute them, then I hear only one instrument remaining. If I look at the mixer window, I only see one channel for each of the affected instruments. Can anyone tell me a) how this occurred and b) how to fix it? I'm sure I could just start over, but then I wouldn't have learned anything. :--)

Welcome to the forum.
You said it is a RealTracks jazz quartet. Just checking, but are the instrument buttons green? If not, this could be MIDI and a problem with echoing on.
Could you please tell us more:
What soundcard do you use, or is it a soft synth? Is DXi checked in MIDI Drivers?
What RealTracks did you select, and how did you select them: individually, or by loading a RealStyle?
Do other songs work properly, and it's just a problem with this one song?
The more you can tell us along those lines, the more likely we will spot the problem.
And, you may not know you can get free support from PG Music if we can't spot the problem. They are really good.
Hang in there, we'll find it.

Perhaps you inadvertently copied the entire arrangement to the audio track. That can be done from the combo radio button and "render all tracks to audio track"
You can check this out by right clicking on the audio track at the top, and muting it. If the problem goes away - then that's it, and menu-audio-kill entire audio track will fix it.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

Thanks for the reply.
The instrument buttons are indeed green (as am I, the newbie user).
Using GS/Wavetable Synth.
The checkbox for "Use VST/Dxi Synth" is checked.
I loaded the style "_jazfred..."
Hopefully this provides the details you were looking for.
Thanks!

Thanks, Peter! That appears to be the issue. I'm not clear on how I made this happen, but I was making earlier attempts to render the arrangement to .wav file, so I must have done it during that attempt. I'll have to try to recreate -- and avoid -- what I did before.
Thanks very much to everyone for the responses.

Hi,
Just thought I'd let the folks on this thread know what I found while following up on this issue. As I mentioned, I had rendered a .wav file version of the arrangement (via RealBand) and the .wav file was in the same folder as the BIAB and RealBand versions. What I discovered is that if the .wav file is present when I press "Play", both the BIAB file AND the .wav file play at the same time. If I move the .wav file to another folder, no problem -- it's only playing the BIAB file.
I did this several times to confirm it, both re-loading and keeping the BIAB file open while moving and returning the .wav file to the directory. Same result in all cases.
This doesn't seem very intuitive to me, but at least I know what it seems to be doing.
Thanks again for your help.

That was one of the huge improvements a number of years ago, and it's often the first thing we check.
That's why pg (or Peter Gannon) himself told you to mute the Audio Track, if it goes away delete or move the .wav file.

If you have a .wav file in the same folder as a .mgu/sgu. etc. BiaB songfile and both have the exact same name in front of the suffix, BiaB will load that .wav file into the Audio track when it loads the song. Thus it will play alongside the autoaccompaniment tracks.
Why BiaB does that - it is because the lone Audio track was originally conceived as a way for people who do not wish to use a MIDI instrument to be able to record an acoustic instrument or their voice along with the BiaB song, using a microphone.
This is also a neat way to get a .wav file that is not associated with BiaB into your BB song as well. Simply rename the .wav file to the exact same character string as the BiaB filename, keeping the .wav suffix on the end, drop it into the same folder as the target BiaB songfile and both will be loaded when the song is selected.
If you happen to have a .wav file that gets loaded and plays because of that, simply move it to another folder or rename the file so that it will not load with the songfile. Adding one character to the filename string is enough to change it so.
