Often a realtrack instrument will start inappropriately during the count-in. Is this a bug?

Hi Sam,

It *may* be indicative of someone trying to use a RealTrack outside of its BPM range.

I just tried "Cool Jazz Ballad" JO85 at 60 instead of 85 - bass comes in during count-in. It doesn't happen at 85. Is 80 too slow?

Peter has listed the BPM ranges on this forum somewhere, can't find it right now and I'm not sure I remember the exact particulars about that, sorry.

What I do is try it. Sometimes certain RealTracks will "stretch" a bit further than others.

Check in the RT Assign to Track dialog. In the memo box is the suggested range of the RT.

Rachael

p.s. Personally I think it is a bug. I've heard it with Bass and Guitar tracks.

Greetings,

Yes, Im having this same issue. Also, sometimes the piano or guitar will enter early and out of sync with the song, usually after 1 bar everything is cool, but it is a bit unsettling. The next time it happens, I will post the MP3 so you all can hear it.

Take care,
Ed

Any realtrack should handle 5 BPM slower than it's optimum rate. This is a bug that has nothing to do with range.

I have noticed that sometimes a RealTrack will begin on the upbeat before bar 1. If this doesn't suit my arrangement of the song, I just regenerate the individual track until I get a track that begins on beat 1. Often the upbeat start sounds good, though. It's at its best when only one instrument starts on the upbeat.

I was just playing some (85)Jazz RTs at 75bpm. The Bass and sometimes Guitar or Piano would also start playing before measure one, during the drum count-in.

I have also noticed that sometimes the RealTracks will play fine the first time through but will somtimes start early (during the drum count-in) when I push
"Replay," which is supposed to give you the same rendering.

PG Staff: Do you know why this is happening?

I have yet to hear that happen here.

I'm using Delta card with ASIO drivers exclusively at the moment.

People reporting this: Are you using MME drivers?

Please report your OS, soundcard and driver choice, that may have something to do with providing a clue to development, don't know for certain, but it is a possibility at this point.

Just in case you missed it, Peter Gannon said this about tempos for Real Tracks on January 10:

"Typically stretching up 20 bpm, and down 10 bpm is good, but outside of that range artifacts are noticeable. Of course artifacts are noticeable with some instruments at any amount of tempo stretching, even 1 bpm. if you listen to the instrument solo'd. But in a mix, that range (+20, -10 bpm) is a good rule of thumb. Some instruments are harder to stretch - Acoustic Guitar is one of the "hard ones to stretch"."

FYI, upon his request I sent Andrew my "interface.bbw" file, which I assume has that info, plus MGU song. He duplicated the problem, and assume is working on a fix.
