Whenever BiaB either refuses to start up or doesn't start up properly and you can't do anything once it starts, it is usually because one volatile file, that BB must write to when closing and then read when reopening, has become corrupted.

That file is named, "intrface.BBW" and the "Return to Factory Settings" routine can be acomplished by simply locating that file in your bb folder and deleting it with BB completely closed down, then start BB up and it will make a new one as it starts. This file contains the data about your chosen soundcard, MIDI device, User settings, etc.

For example, if a BB session should crash, freeze or anything that causes an exit that is other than graceful, that file may not get written to or may not get written to properly, creating a corrupted file. Next time you attempt to open the program, it cannot read that entire file properly and problems such as described here arise.

Sounds to me like LBL found the solution here, either in the FAQs or by searching the forum.
