Hi folks, I'm looking for some style suggestions in the ilk of the group Delerium. Kind of a dark, mystical world-tinged synth-pop is what I'm after, I guess. Could be like their AFTER ALL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOgkK_K-W6kor SILENCE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA-je1_Ejq0I'm also interested in styles that may be more reminiscent of Dead Can Dance, particularly in their more midaeval mystical modes. And suggestions or leads greatly appreciated!

I'd start by searching MIDI Techno styles. (I believe most of these are in Set/disk 77.) These won't be exactly what you want, but slow them down a bunch and give a listen. You may get some ideas. You may be able to create hybrid Styles from what is there. I'd also give a listen to some of the New Age Styles. Maybe a mashup of the two?
I'm just getting ready to go out and can't give more of a detailed answer at the moment, but I'll check back when I return. Let me know what you think.

Hey Richard, great suggestions! Thanks. I've already produced some results I like. I hadn't thought of slowing down tracks like that in a whole style. Those techno tracks have lots of great stuff, but indeed at a higher tempo than I require. And because I'm looking for a synth-pop sound, no reason in the world to be searcing mostly through realtracks, the way I've been doing.

Check out some of the 80s-era Britpop styles, too. Lots of good synth keyboard, bass, and string lines in there. Play with the Combos. Mute the cheesy MIDI guitar lines and bask in synthy goodness. Lots of good stuff in GM alone. Bring it out to a nice soft synth or quality hardware module and you've really got something.
Sometimes I'll go with a MIDI drum part, i.e., obviously synthetic. Sometimes I'll port it into Reason and get some good-quality drum samples cooking. I need to dig into Real Band now and start working with multiple drum parts. The possibilities are tremendous.
