Hello all,

I want to start with a blank style and pick different instruments (not midi) and build from there. Is there actually a blank style in the style picker or do I just load a style and erase all the instruments?

Also when listening to different instruments in the style picker is there a way to solo individual instruments without loading a style or a demo song?

I realize this is probably obvious but I can't figure it out.

I'm using 2011.5 EverythingPak.

Thank you,

Mike

Mike,

For auditioning the realtracks...
Right click on any Melody, soloist, guitar etc.
Then select Add/Remove realtracks.
Pick one out ONE CLICK only.
Then, near top middle click Audition(WMA).
This will play your selection in WMP.

Clearing the screen, I just click on FILE>NEW.
Not sure if this clears everything, but its a clean
start when building.

Good Luck,

Seeker

There is a blank style if you want but it's not really necessary to use it. Just rt click on each instrument and it'll overwrite what's there then just save the song and when loaded it'll still have your RTs.I use the blank though as it lets me know that this is something I did. It could get confusing if you left style XYZ up there then overwrote the parts with RTs. The next time you do a song and choose XYZ it won't be like you did it previously and you'll go "what the heck is going on". It'll will be the ORIGINAL layout of instruments that's part of the style be they RTs or MIDI.

It's amazing that I have looked all over the style picker many times and have never seen the audition button.

Seeker and John - thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

MrEd., keep in mind that only the midi instruments follow the style - once the midis are replaced entirely by RT's the style will no longer have any inflence on the song. thats why there is no diff from using a bossa style or a blank style when only RT's are involved.

Thanks Jazzmandan for your reply. I'm still not sure that I follow what you're saying but continued use will help my understanding I'm sure.

Well there are:

1. (is rather) a Blank style, just your midi plays.
2. All midi styles where only midi plays and the BIAB styles have patterns and an A style and B style buried in there that you can manipulate.
3. RealTracks where there is no actual style, just try and match tempos and feel, like swing in a group you can call your style.
4. A group of RealTracks where pg music called the shots and put together a style.
5. Combinations of the above.

So in effect from pgmusic you have midi styles, RealTracks styles, and crosses of the above.

In the end you get control over a vast array of stuff!

John thanks for your explanation. I'm always just thinking in terms of real tracks.

It's not exactly intuitive to save your own RealStyle. You do it by right-clicking an instrument and bring up Add/Remove RealTracks. Then, within that dialog, click on the Save Style button.

FYI, I made a suggestion in the Wishlist that others seemed to like, to add a menu option for 'Save Current Style' to the Styles menu.
