I'd really like to know how to get BIAB to print quarter note triplets correctly. Anyone know if this has been implemented yet?
I know how to enter the notes so that sound like quarter note triplets, but they don't print that way. They print like two eighth notes and quarter note. I need to give music I write to other players and this limits what I can do with BIAB. I tink this has been pointe out many times. I love this program and want to be hopeful that a basic notation capability like this is on the priority list to be fixed, or maybe even it already has been implemented. Either way can someone say where this lies at present?
Thanks in advance. :-)

you have to be in a swing style. each beat will have 3 vertical dotted lines. enter a note on every other line and you'll have a quarter note triplet. Later, Ray

Hi funguitar, Triplets and BIAB's notation of them seems to be mysterious to me. Below are some screen captures to explain what I mean. (The images all refer to exactly the same set of notes with exactly the same swing-based (i.e. triplet-based) style; _CBOOGSL.STY.) 1. The image below is when I have BIAB in Editable notation mode and I put in some quarter note triplets. 2. I then turned off the Editable notation mode and went into Regular notation mode and the notes displayed as the image below shows. (I lost my triplets.) 3. Next I thought I'd try a print preview of the notes when I'm in Regular notation mode. This gave me the below results. 4. Lastly, I wondered what a print preview would look like when I'm in Editable Notation Mode. The below images says it all. In summary, it looks like BIAB does have the ability to display quarter note triplets properly but that there is some glitch that occurs when going from Editable notation to Regular notation. With the above in mind, I'd try setting your music into Editable notation mode and then seeing if it prints correctly. (I'll send a note to Support and refer them to this thread to see if there is something that can be done to unify the display and printing of triplets.) Kind regards, Noel

Fun, if you are asking if there has been a recent change in this area, I believe the answer is no.
Ray gave a good tip. Also be sure to read the FAQ on triplets. PG Music describes the known limitations with notation.

From the BiaB FAQ page: Quote:
25. How do I display 'Swing' notation (triplets) and 'Even feel' notation (sixteenths) in the same song? How do I enter quarter note triplets?
You can toggle between Swing and Even feel notation by enabling/disabling 'Triplet Resolution' in the Notation Window Options dialog. Alternatively, you can change the resolution for any beat individually by doing the following:
In the Notation Window, activate 'editable notation mode' by pressing the [N] button once. You should see groups of vertical dashed lines.
Right-click on the time indicator line above the beat that you want to change. This will bring up the Beat Resolution dialog. The time indicator line is the narrow horizontal space above the lyric entry area; it contains a little black cursor that shows the current position of your song.
In the Beat Resolution dialog, set the number of beats to 3 if you are in an even feel style and want triplets, or 4 if you are in a triplet style and want sixteenths.
Assuming that you are in triplet resolution, you can insert an eighth note triplet by placing notes on three consecutive dashed lines. For quarter note triplets, place a note on every second dashed line. Note that while your music will always play the way you input it, you may not always be able to get triplets to display exactly how you want. This a limitation of the Band-in-a-Box notation display.
If you find that a quarter note triplet you have entered does not display with the proper triplet notation (ie 3 quarter notes with a '3' over top of them), note that:
In the Notation Window Options dialog, the "Tick Offset" setting can be used to adjust how the notes are displayed. Try setting this to zero; this may allow your triplet to be displayed properly.
Quarter note triplet display will not work as well if you are using an even feel style and are changing an individual beat to triplet feel. It works better if the overall feel of the style is a triplet feel.
Quarter note triplets will never display properly if they span beats 2 and 3 in any measure.

Hi,
The issue can be fixed if you edit the 3rd triplet to be a little later. For example, add 10 ticks to it, so that instead of occuring at 1:2:40 it occurs at 1:2:50
You do that by right clicking on the note, and then editing it in the dialog.
In the next version, I'll fix it so that you don't have to do that.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

I never use in midi in BIAB any more. My question is- how do I get triplets with real tracks? Surely by now they should be available in the chord setttings window?

Hi Bruce,
Are you meaning how to add a chord progression as triplets?
