Hi Family: I'm having a "devil" of a time "punching in". I know BIAB is recording what I am "punching in" because I see (and can hear) the temp file in the folder where the tune is. It just won't play when trying to play the song in BIAB. I've tried both ways; that is: making it a "punched-in" take . . . . or making it a part of the whole take. So far it just won't play. Maybe BIAB is just not "keying" the file when it should. What thinks you? Is there some switch to throw that I have forgotten? Thanks, JZ

Am I correct in assuming that you are trying to punch in corrections to a vocal line?

Thank you, Noel! Yes, I am trying to "punch-in" to an instrumental track. Since I posted to the forum, I have brought the file up into REALBAND. It works there!! Punches right in and save the file, then uses it any time. It's funny too . . . . the "punch-in" feature used to work in BIAB (only a few days ago). I have the tracks to prove it. Weird huh?

As far as I am aware, "punching in" will work only if the instrumental is in the Audio track position. Have you solo'd your Audio track to make sure that the file you want is actually loaded there?

Same here. I've never known of midi using punch in. But I don't play a midi instrument either. I play guitar and bass so all my punching in is in the audio tracks.

Yes, I have "solo'ed" the audio track. But the "punch-in" stuff just won't play. There are trumpet mute changes that go on during the song. I'll see if I can make those changes while recording "live". I might become Houdini to make this come off! Ha!

If you move the project over to RealBand, you could have a separate track for each trumpet part or punch in or whatever you desire...
Very quick mute changes are very rare. Matter of fact, the good arranger/composer allows time between sections so that the horns can change mutes. (I'm recalling the time long ago when I pulled that stunt - one beat to change from straight to hat - the cats on the band bus back then were really not very forgiving of the novice arranger back in the day, heh!) If the mute changes are sudden, the music doesn't sound as realistic, because we are not accustomed to hearing abrupt mute changes anyway. When the muted trumpet changes suddenly, it has a tendency to sound\ more like a MIDI patch change happened, even when using real horns.
