I think a lot of folks who post here are afraid that Peter Gannon is going to see it and get pissed and tailor their comments accordingly.

Well, that ain't it.

Trust me on that one. *grin*

Hehe. Since I do trust you, I'll take your word for it.

But I think I might be getting the "gist" of it.

I have been reading this thread with great interest. Like Graham and guitarman my live band days are over. I’ve had it an with egotistical, loud, heavy drinking guitar player, but enough about me

If known a fellow guitarist friend since the early 60’s. He can not stand BaiB as it’s too static sounding and very predicable, according to him. He visits where I teach quit frequently and always tells everyone that I’m much better than BiaB and that I should trash it and just play. One day I was playing a song demo I made with BiaB and RTs when he came in and said “See, I told you you were much better with live musicians. What’s the name of that band you’re playing with here?”

I replied “In A Box!”

After he heard that he didn’t like the song anymore Strange isn’t it how so many so-called liberal musicians can be so prejudice

I think my wife has started to show the first signs of dementia.
She said she can't remember what she ever saw in me!

It's worth it if all you ever use it for is practice.

I will make my last comment and say it is worth it to each individual in their own way. My RB has turned out stuff I could not play myself and WOULD put it on a record.

And I am done beating this horse.

I think that the forum has multiple values. It is there so users can talk, share ideas, ask questions, learn techniques, solve basic issues without totally swamping the tech lines.

But do not kid yourself, all of that is for the PROMOTION of the product. I remember a frank conversation over at acidplanet.com, when i was involved in a beta testing of the forum board before the new setup was rolled out. Myself and a few others had a discussion with the mods there, and that was the topic. Promotion. Getting hundreds of people to discuss, help, solve issues keeps them from leaving frustrated, and angry. It simple promotes future sales. Mention some successes you are having and everyone wants in.

John mentioned the $99 deal on the Tascam 800 interface, several here bought that day, (mine is back ordered). Mention how cool a new release of BiaB is with the new RTs and bang a flurry of sales. Have a problem with the software, and several others come out of the wood work and agree, stuff gets done, bam happy users, and more sales.

The primary purpose of a forum board is to drive sales, and all other reasons are secondary to that.

We do not purchase this forum with our money, we pay for the current program, and future development. The forum is here to help drive that, and is a cost of doing business. Hence the ads, and stuff all over it.

Whenever I post a song at other sites I always post the credits saying what I did and what BIAB did. Most of the comments concerning BIAB are overwhelming positive (although I know that there are some that probably hate it). When I did my RPM CD in February I got a very good critical analysis of my CD and that person went out of their way to mention how good the drummer was (I don't think they realized that BIAB was involved, though).

I have had more than a dozen say they were going to have to check BIAB out (but I don't know if they ever did). Getting BIAB to exactly what I want is tough, so I often let BIAB shape the final recording based on what is available. If I could do all the instruments myself I would, but I lean heavily on BIAB's drums, bass and piano sounds.

I think BIAB has helped my musicianship and song crafting skills immeasurably. Now if we could just get that "Tower of Power" horn section in there!!!

That's what it's all about Kevin.

I've wanted those TOP horns for years but realistically and considering what I know about how the RT's are created and used, it probably wouldn't work out too well. We could probably make a TOP style horn section RT sound good for one song maybe but that's about it. We would be doing so much cutting pasting for different songs that we would be better off using a horn section VSTi in Real Band.

How is that "cost of doing business” covered? By selling the product! When we buy the “product” we pay the “cost of doing business” in past, present and future tenses. (I helped manage a multi-million dollar wholesale business for almost 18 years, and had to answer for the results, ...so I fully understand what the "cost of doing business" is. It doesn't just pay for what you're doing today and tomorrow, ...it pays for what you did yesterday).

We therefore “purchase the forum” with OUR money by exchanging it for the "product".

True Mac. But if people don't keep buying, the "seller" ceases to exist.

Customers, ......especially repeat customers, are paying for that and are therefore covering your "cost of doing business". Without them you can't continue to exist.

A business only has money in their pocket because a customer put it there. The seller can take that money and run, ...... or they can keep on doing business.

Who makes it possible to "stay alive"? Why the customers of course!. They pay for EVERYTHING!

Mac,

One thing my old boss used to drill into us was this.

"Who is paying your salaries? It's not your employer! It's our CUSTOMERS! ALL of us answer to them!"

He was right.

We could take “circular reasoning” and go round and round.

Or we could just listen to Billy Preston sing about it, (which is a lot more fun.)

Bob,

Do you needlessly and endlessly argue every single point you want to make. Just accept the fact that you are usually wrong and things will go much smoother around here (ha, ha).

Kevin,

Actually, ... I asked for the debate to end a long time ago.

And by the way, ... I'm right.

(Notice that I didn't find it necessary to insult you in my response).

Why have an opinion unless you think you're right??? LOL.

At least I didn't insult you personally while expressing my opinion. You might give that a try next time. It would look better on you.

Probably comes from having to use a pick and not being able to play the banjo.

The most common reaction I get from people about BiaB is that they like it but that it is too expensive.
