Greetings and help, I originally wrote a tune many years ago in Biab 2004 and have resurrected it from my old files into Biab 2010, to bring it up to date, and I am now having some problems with it. The soloist does not sound. The notes are there and they get highlighted as though they are playing but no sound is coming out. All the other band parts are fine. I have checked all the normal things.... Opt/midi audio etc... sound cards etc... (I am using Dxi), but I cannot get to bottom of it. If I render the tune and load each track into my Audio Editor, then the soloist plays ok, so the problem appears to be on the sound card or vsc settings. The problem is not insurmountable as I can work around it but I would dearly like to know the reason why. I have been using Biab for about 10 years now and consider myself an old hand at it, (and an old hand in age as well), and I furthur realise that I could have done something stupid, (won't be the first time!!!) but I am too old to get embarrassed over it now. So if anyone has any thoughts on this, then I would like to hear from you.
Thanks lfu2

Hi lfu2,

A person on these forums had a similar problem recently. It turned out that the volume for the track in question was set down to zero. With this in mind, try clicking on the "Soloist" and check to see if the volume is around 90.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel96,

Thanks for the quick reply; the volume is set correctly, but that is the sort of silly thing that could be wrong. I didn't mention earlier that if I load it into any other midi editor it works perfectly, so the problem is only in Biab.

Thanks lfu2

lfu2,

Have you tried re-setting to factory settings? Sounds to me like that's worth trying.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel,

I have already reset multiple times; it makes not the slightest difference.

lfu2,

Under Opt | Preferences | Channels, start-up MIDI information can be set for all tracks. Below are the settings (yellow highlight) that I have for me Soloist. It would be worth checking to see if yours are the same.

Regards,
Noel

If by, "using DXi" you are trying to say that you are using the VSC in DXi version, try visiting the Control Panel for the VSC via the MIDI/Audio... Settings window in the BB Options menu, open the VSC control panel itself and see if all the volume sliders are turned all the way to the right. Sometimes there can be a glitch that turns one or more of them down.

Noel96 and Mac, Thanks for help.

Noel, my channel set up is the same as yours, except for the patch number. I am using 67 tenor sax.

Mac, I am using cakewalk TTS-1 Dxi version vsc. All the controls are set to the proper volume.... in this case, all set to 90.

I have decided to waste no more time on this; all my other compositions have no problems so I am reading this as a glitch somewhere along the line, poss. in the original 2004 version. Rather than rewriting the entire number again I have copied the soloist track to the melody track and edited it there. In rendering to my audio editor, I have duplicated the track and then edited out the melody and soloist on the various tracks.... a long way round, but it has worked.
So once again, thank you very much for the time you have put it on this and if I ever find out the problem I will post it up.

Since it only happens on that one songfile, could easily be a rogue MIDI command at the beginning of the songfile that is turning that MIDI Channel down or off.

The MIDI Event List can often be used to sort these things out and from there you could remove or replace rogue commands in order to get things to work as desired.
