Hello all, Haven't posted in awhile. We were flooded again and I lost everything but my guitars. I can't go into that here or now, Thank you.
My Question is.... I just got a new Win7 Machine. A Dell with i5, 6gb RAM, 1tb HD. I installed BIAB 2009, PTPA 12 and Realband 2009 and they all work fine. BIAB always needs my permission to run. The others don't but it's no big deal. I always used the VCS for everything and I know it doesn't work on this system so I downloaded Forte Coyote DXI and installed it. It seems to sound OK but when I change instruments in BIAB 2009, I can change all the instrument except the drums. When I change the drums I can get brushes and maybe another. What I want is the TR 808 Kit. I use them a lot. I thought I got it once but I don't remember. Is there a patch number or a trick to get these drum kits or are they not included in the Forte Coyote DXI? They are listed on the drop-down list, but they won't change sounds. It will change the name of the drum patch though.
Also being a satisfied user of the old VSC does the Roland TTS-1 that comes with Cakewalk sound as good or better then the VSC or Coyote DXI plugin?
I love the new machine. I had no idea how much faster the new machines were. I had a Core 2Duo and 2gb RAM running XP with a good graphics card and soundcard and this blows it away. They call it the WOW Factor. Well it's been a week and my head is still spinning from the speed of this machine. I couldn't find anything even close to this at HP or Dell or Gateway. I signed up for BJ's Club, a discount place and found they still sold computers only now they were much higher end. So far so good on the computer front with PG software. Most of my other old software friends do not work at all.
Later all, Your friend Wayne,
P.S. Will upping the RAM from 6gb to 8 gb make much of a difference? Thank you all again. wayne,

Hi Wayne. Welcome back.
That sounds like a fine new machine. I haven't used Coyote Forte in awhile so I'll leave the sound questions to others. About the RAM, I used to use Coyote Forte on a machine with 1 GB of RAM and another with 2 GB, and both worked great, so I suspect going from 6 to 8 GB will not matter.
If I recall correctly, you live on the other side of the Catskills from me, and I am well aware of what you must have gone through. Best of luck recovering.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hi Wayne,
The version of the Coyote DXi that waz put together for use with Vista/Win7 64 bit machines likely does not have the TR-808 sample bank in it. This is the way I underastand the situation: The samples ised by the Coyote for Win7 64 bit are actually taken from the Microsoft Software Synth sample bank, which comes with the Od (and are actually Roland/Edirol samples BTW) but I don't think that the MS software synth has the TR-808 samples available, boo.
*If you have a 32 bit Win7 machine, there is a good chance that the good old VSC will indeed install. Worth the shot IMO.
If not, the TTS should have not only the TR-808 in it, but also guite a few better sounding samples in its Upper Banks (Coyote does not use any Upper Banks because Microsoft doesn't have the samples).
Hopefully someone who is currently using the TTS will check it out and make certain that the TR-808 drunkit sample set is indeed available and runs fine on BiaB before you take the plunge, I seem to recall that it does but no longer use TTS here and did not install it again.
If you don't like having to grant permission to BiaB every time, you have the option of turning UAC -- User Account Control -- OFF in the Win7 OS. If unsure how to go about that, you can easily websearch for the details.

Thanks Mac,
I am going to buy Cakewalk with the TTS Synth in it. I've read here that it works fine with 64bit machines.
I really did like the VSC and got used to the sounds. So far everything I've read about it from users here say it's a lot like the VCS only better.
I think that will be my next move. I'm not that happy with the Coyote Forte sounds. Nothing wrong with them, I'm just used to the old Sound Canvas Module and then the VSC sounds since they came out.
Thanks for the answer and advice,
Wayne,

Hi, Wayne - Don't know if it makes a difference to you, but Cakewalk just released Music Creator 6 (MC6). I think what PG sells on the website here is Music Creator 5 (MC5). MC6 is $50; MC5 is $40. Both come with the same TTS-1 Synth. Just thought I'd let you know.

Hi Wayne,
Like you I like the old VSC sounds, that why I specifically asked my computer builder to supply a copy of windows 7 32 bit. VSC works fine with 32 bit just an error after closing biab which is no big problem. I have the TTS-1 as well have played a little bit with it but still prefer the VSC.
Have you thought about instead of buying another synth just get a copy of 32 bit windows and have a dual boot system?

The Coyote Forte DXi is not the same as the "included" Coyote wavetable synth just to clear things up. The CoyoteForte DXi that you have to pay for is far superior to the Coyote Wavetable synth.Neither have that drum kit. Both of them have: 1. Standard 2.Brushes 3.Orchestral That's it.

I downloaded the trial copy of the Coyote Forte DXI, and I'm pretty impressed with it. For a soft synth that isn't expensive at all, it sounds much better to my ears than the other soft GM alternatives. It provides a great way to instantly render midi to audio without having to play the midi to an audio track and record it in real time.
So, I paid for the validation key today (first use of PayPal) Money well spent.

Pat, I bought this years ago as my goto Synth for BIAB - surprized you have just discovered it. You should have asked long ago...
BIAB – 2026, Reaper (current), i7-12700F Processor, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Motu Audio Express 6x6 - My SoundCloud.

until recently I've always used a hard synth (which stayed permaqnently setup in my recording area) Now that I'm getting modular and mobile for gigs, the synth and rack stuff is not always set up conveniently. So I needed a way to prepare MIDI in songs without going to a lot of setup hassle.
The recent thread on soundfonts led to many comments about the coyote forte, and so I tried it. Works for me.
The thing about asking sooner is, until a person knows what they don't know, they don't know what to ask. Forums help me to learn what other people know so I don't have to know what to ask.

Now what is the message there? The message is that there are no "knowns." There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns. Donald Rumsfeld Press Conference at NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium, June 6, 2002 Cheers F

Exactly.

but seriously, I'm a firm believer in the idea that NONE of us is as smart as ALL of us together. The main advantage of assembling many minds in one place is the naturally occuring expansion of knowledge. That's why forums work so well for product support.
Most of what I've learned on forums, I would never have thought to ask about.... but when people start talking about something they've discovered, it's fun to get sucked into the learning vortex.
So, by all means, tell me what you know... but ESPECIALLY, tell me what you're excited about. Enthusiasm is contagious.

One of my early Trumpet teachers used to have a statement ready at hand for his students:
"You don't know what it is that you don't know yet."
He was a wise man.
