This is very likely not an impedance problem.

A rule of thumb in audio electronics is that you can always drive a higher impedance input with a lower impedance source and suffer no loss. The nominal 8 ohm headphone output of the player should drive the nominal 10K input or even the so-called Low Impedance 600 ohm input of your PA without problem.

Try the headphone output jack with the proper stereo breakout Y adaptor into the PA system. Perhaps something is up with the AUX output on that player. Let's hope its not some copy protection scheme...
