Ron, as someone who doubles on vibes, I'm not sure about your statement that players turn the rotor on and off during a song. I prefer to use the rotor for slower songs and leave it on. At least on my set, it's hard enough to adjust the belt for different speeds that I don't mess with it within one tune. The pro you saw may be different, of course, since it is all player's preference.
