Hi everyone,

i am using BiaB 2011 on a Win 7 system (Notebook).

When I render a song into Audio (.wav or other formats), the songs gets scrambled up. It' just a tiny little thing, so that I didn't even believe it at first (with slower songs), but now that I've rendered my first faster song (@180bpm) I am sure there is something wrong in the rendering process. The song just isn't in-time afterwards.

What could be the problem? Inside BiaB, everything's fine, it all happens during rendering.

Thx for any help
Florian

I know by now that it is a problem with the MIDI setup, strange enough.

The problem does not occur when rendering songs made up entirely of Real Tracks.

And I do have some other issues with the MIDI setup. So I'll keep loocking in that direction...still hoping for help, though:-)

Welcome to the forum.

In your audio setup area, there is a timing adjustment to match MIDI to audio. I'm not at a BIAB PC now (no power) but someone can help you find that. Or, look in Help for MIDI Latency.

BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hi Matt,

thanx for the suggestion...I'm not sure it's to do with the Latency.

Firstly, because I've played around with it already to no effect.

Secondly, rendering has the same problem even when I render a single MIDI Track to Audio without anything else. If I right-click on the Drum Track and tell BiaB to "save MIDI Drums to .WAV" then I get this scrambled and strange lagging Drums in that .WAV - there is no Latency involved between any different MIDI and Audio sources , just a plain output of a single MIDI track as Audio.

Strange, I can't find where this comes from...

What synth are you using? Tell us (or screenshot) what your Midi/Audio Drivers Setup page looks like.

You may try a Return to Factory Settings.

Never heard of this problem. I suspect your computer has a fault in the sound setup.

Of course you may not understand something you are doing, for the screen to render is a bit obtuse.

I'd look to the video tutorials.

Make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest Patch Update for your version.

I have noticed tempo variations at times when using MMA versus ASIO audio drivers, when RealTracks are involved. This could happen in rendering to WAV even with MIDI instruments. Have you tried switching your audio drivers?

I have found MMA/ASIO issues responsible for almost all problems that I have encountered so far in everything from clicks/pops, tempo variations, and system hangs.

Hi Joel,

sorry, it took me some time to get back to this topic.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Actually, when I try to change the Audio driver, I get a message: "no ASIO Driver installed"...

What do I need to do to get the ASIO drivers?

Hi Rachael,

sorry, it took me a while to get back to this topic.

I have made a screenshot of my Audio settings.
Unfortunately it's in German, but you may be able to see what the settings are by comparing them to the corresponding setup window in your BiaB.

Thx for any further help, the problem still persists..

Those settings like identical to mine with the exception to the Audio Latency. I use Coyote Forte which setS the latency at 488.

Which synth are you using?

I'm not sure what you mean by the song gets 'scrambled up'?

HI Rachael,

thanks for the Link.
I have installed ASIO4ALL and the Audio Settings now look like this:

I am also using Coyote Forte, Midi Driver settings look like this:

Alas, the problem still persists...

I have created a link to one of my BiaB-Songs so you can take a look and listen. Then you will know exactly what I mean by "scrambled up"

Here is the song: Jingle Bells.mgu
And here is what it sounds like after rendering:Jingle Bells.mp3
(I have created an .mp3 to make the file smaller - it sounds the same before compression)

Yes, the audio is indeed scrambled while the BIAB is a very nice MIDI arrangement. I have an idea, let me see if I can reproduce the problem. Give me a while as the wife needs a little attention... . By the way I did a quick render to .wav and it sounded fine, so the file is OK.

Check for us - are you using Coyote Wavetable (CoyoteWT) or CoyoteForte (Forte DxiPlugin)?

The wavetable version is the free one which is shipped with BIAB while the second is the pay-to-play version.

I noticed that also. Looks like the synth being used is Wavetable but Forte is being used to load the drum and patch map.

Florian, make sure the Synth/Sound card on the MIdi/Audio Driver Setup screen matches your synth. There is a difference between Wavetable and Forte. Perhaps this is the problem.

Is this the only song this occurs? I am not familiar with that style but found it curious that it loaded in my BIAB 2011.5 with c/d substyles. I checked the style and it does not contain any substyles - so I'm baffled how those got in there. I used that style to create a new song and no substyles appeared. Perhaps your song file is corrupted.

@Jazzmandan

to be quite frank, I really don't know....in the menu I've sreenshot above, I've chosen Coyote ForteDXi...but is that really what I should do? Isn't this pulldown menu just to tell BiaB when you're really using an external Module, which is not the case!

So maybe I should use "General MIDI Instrument Misc." here, as is suggested below. I will try this, repeat the render and get back to you.

Further below in the same dialogue, it looks as though CoyoteWT is my DXi/VSTi Synth, isn't it? Look at my screenshot.

Hope this helps

No, I added those substyles using a right-click on the style marker. That's not where the problem comes from.

And no, it's not the only song where this happens.

I will try and set Synth/Soundcard to CoyoteWT and also once to "General MIDI Misc." and get back to you with results.

Thx for your efforts. Hope we can nail it down soon...:-)

I'm betting on a mismatch of the patch map. Although not sure why the rendered version would sound different then the BIAB sound.

I use the CoyoteForte DXi but with the "General Midi" map. It just sounds better to me versus using the CoyoteForte DXi with the Forte mapp. Actually, I never knew there was a Forte mapp, it must have appeared in recent versions. I have used Forte for years. By the way, it's sounds are much better then the Coyote wavetable (at least to my ear).

Good Luck, be sure to let us know.

Guys, I am frustrated...

I've played around a little with the settings we've been talking about...tried different map settings with different audio drivers, switching between "CoyoteWT" and "General MIDI" with either MME or ASIO drivers.

To no effect, or rather, to be precise, it's getting worse...had some issues in between where there was no sound outside BiaB when using ASIO4ALL, MME drivers would give me the sound back. Now that has stopped, I am back to ASIO drivers and using the CoyoteWT map - actually just the way it should be.

Listen to what the rendering sounds like. now....be sure to listen all the way to 0:20 and afterwards...

Latest Render Jingle Bells

What can I say...there's something seriously wrong here, but what is it?

This is a brand new Dell notebook with i7Core, running Win7...I see you'Re running pretty much the same system, but never had any issues, did you?

You talkin to me? ..never had issues!!, Oh My, what would give you that idea? I go from one issue to another. Hardly time to create music. At this monent I any working with both Reaper and JamStix to resolve compatibility issues. I (and many of the folks here) spend additional time on these forums trying to help others simply because we have had issues and we know what a pain these issues are. Sorry for the rant, but you struck a nerve.

Let me take a deep breath. ............. There, thats better. OK, all I can tell you is this is fixable. These kind of sound problems are always fixable. Just a matter of being patient and not quiting before a solution is found. Others, will come to help from this forum. If this goes on too long Peter himself will step in and identify a fix. It just takes time and troubleshooting.

Suggestion - just mine and in no particular order:
1) Work with MME only, the ASIO generally only brings on new problems and since you are not recording I don't see the need.
2) Keep in mind the file rendered fine on my system - so the problem is with your setup.
3) Go to Dell and be sure you have most recent updates for your sound card.
4) Try the free 30 day trial of Forte - that is what I used to render and it worked.

Keep at it, rembember it is generally always configuration.
