Hi,

I use biab mainly but now have got back into jammer pro 6 again, which I have had for a long time. Just had a quick look at the jammer website looking to update my version and they are running a good deal there now with jammer 6 and all its styles for only $119, I paid a lot more than that.

http://www.soundtrek.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=6

After playing around a little bit more with the program, its easy to enter 8 chords to the bar or even more than that. It will not provide the instant gratification of biab, but the tutorials are very good, would take a few days only I think to get to know most of the basics of the program.

Jammer won't replace my favourite biab program and it doesn't seem to have been updated for quite a while but I think $119 for it and all its styles could be considered a bargain.

Regards
Jan

Be advised that after having it awhile, it becomes all too clear that poor Jammer, with little to no support or upgrading, soon becomes a four-trick pony.

Band in a Box, on the other hand, keeps on gettin' better'n better.

. Under the hood Jammer is immensely complicated, in fact almost too complicated, I bought Jammer and BIAB at the same time in the 1990's and so have spent many, many hours exploring both. Band In A Box is INDISPENSIBLE and has helped me turn some of my 400+ songs into music. (Some people on here disagreed with my use of the word "music" as their comments showed with my earlier attempts. )
Jammer, at first, was not even a 4 trick pony, more like a one legged cross-eyed mule but after many, and I mean, many hours the deeper I dug the more I discovered. I was the "computer-music geek" in a few studios for 7+ years so that gave me plenty of time to mess around, coffee being my choice of relaxation. I do not use the Jammer styles tho', I use the musicians, but every song was/is at least 75% BIAB

Band In A Box however was a Pedigree Stallion, to continue the analogy, from day 1 and still continues to amaze me with what it can do. I haven't even scratched the list of styles as there are many I haven't even listened to the demos.

I only use MIDI and with a little lateral thinking BIAB can produce STUNNING results. The "Freeze" facility and the sequencer on the Melody and Solo tracks mean I can end up with 16 tracks to play with. One example of my weird way of working is to let the Melody/Solo Maker write a simple "tune" with the Jacobass, 37 I think, harmony and voila one funky bass part.Takes a few goes tho'

Jammer can do a lot, but the learning curve for decent sound, i.e., not bloody repetitive, is a little steeper than I'd like, and certainly way steeper than BIAB. More to the point, as Mac and gibson point out, BIAB has evolved into the fantastic audio product it is, while Jammer's still telling you how cool its eighty gazillion styles are. Heck with that.

I use to have Jammer but gave it up for BiaB a few years ago. However Jammer has a couple of features I wish BiaB would incorporate. One is the ability to have more than 4 chords per measure and the other is the ability to add musicians to the styles. Other than those two features BiaB blows Jammer out of the water.

OK, a random thought;
Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

in a world where the game changes with every upgrade, perhaps the key phrase here is "it doesn't seem to have been updated for quite a while "

But there are several schools of thought where music software is concerned. For the person who likes to own lots of different software in order to have every possibility available, then $119 is a good price to get some features nobody else has.

On the other hand, for those who don't like paying good money for a bunch of different products that share/duplicate most of the same features, it wouldn't make sense to redirect cash that could be used to upgrade the product of choice.

The final thought is that, if people were jumping ship from Jammer to BIAB several versions ago... but now BIAB is several upgrades better, and another upgrade is weeks away... while Jammer is still the same...

well, 'nuff said.
