Can someone steer me to a link that will help in converting a midi file I downloaded ?. I would like to convert it to Biab, so I can have individual tracks, & then save them as individual wave files..
thanks in advance..

I am not an expert on this, but here is my understanding: When you open a external midi file in BIAB, all the tracks are placed on either the melodist or soloist track and are, individually, only available via the green SEQ button. You can't seem to move them to the bass/piano/drums/guitar/strings tracks because those tracks are generated/controlled by the "style" that is in effect.

However, if you open that same midi file in RealBand -- everything is in its own track.

I hope that helps.

I have updated the page jazzman linked to specifically address your question. Here is the link again.

Thanks very much for the link.... Sure gives a lot of info to keep this old head busy for a long time....
Kevin I tried importing the file I want to work with into Real Band, but for some reason I can't get Real Band working the way it should, & couldn't get the midi into real band..

I don't really use RealBand -- it seems to crash on me every time I import an SGU or MGU BIAB file! It did work on the midi file that I tested for this. Folks here swear by RealBand -- but it just doesn't work consistently for me. I am sure it is just me, but since I use Sonar to mix/produce, I just haven't bothered to figure RB out.

It seems I can't install it properly. I have the external drive & when I try to install it, it asks me where to install Real drums, Real Tracks etc, then says it's not a legal install. Also under File open, I don't see anywhere to import a Midi file like it says in BIAB.. Maybe I'll try Audacity. might be easier..

You don't need to install it if you have the PG external drive. You just hit the "Setup" button and choose Option 1 and follow the instructions. Read those three options carefully, they explain exactly what you need to do for those scenarios. In Real Band File>Open is it for a midi file. There's no need to import it, RB opens a midi file by simply double clicking on it.

well, I must be missing Set Up somewhere. I only see Real Band.exe, then it asks me if I want to use Asio, now a box came up, & it is asking me if I want Microsoft MIDI Mapper or Microsoft GS Wavetable, but nothing under Input Driver(s).... I do have the box checked to Reroute Midi Playback to Dxi/VSTiSynth

Johnny, lets go to basics. When you said external drive, is that the PG Music drive or just a regular external? What version of Biab and RB?

Bob, It's PG Music hard drive, version 2011.5. Up till now I've only used BIAB, & haven't used Real Band yet..
