I was hoping that someone here can help me with a problem I am having. Recently I changed from Powertrax to BIAB for live performances. I am still using all of my old (kar) backing files as I have built these up over many years & do not want to rerecord the whole lot. The problem is, that some of the files play OK in Powertrax, but when I open them in BIAB they start at a different bar (bar 12 in one, bar 10 in another). This is making it almost impossible to use BIAB. Does anyone know how to rectify this so that BIAB always starts at the beginning of the track. Thanks Simon - Canberra Australia

There are boxes that contain the start point, the end point and the number of times to play, and there is potentially an intro and an ending. I would suggest you attempt to follow some of the video instruction on basics....however I for one do not understand why anyone would use Band in a Box as a kar player.....

Well excuse me for not using the program the way you think I should.
I just asked a simple question regarding the program, I did not expect to get flamed for it.
If I wish to use MIDI files with lyrics (this is what kar files are) for my backing, but take advantage of the realsounds in BIAB, I should be frowned on for doing so.
If there is anyone out there who can help - or who actually wants to assist a newcomer, I would appreciate hearing from them, but am not interested in a slanging match about what kind of music should be used.

@Simon,
First, welcome to the forum.
Second, well, John didn't try to get into a "slanging match about what kind of music" or the like, he's just a nice old guy kind of like a grumpy uncle sometimes. But he was indeed trying to help.
Do you have RealBand?
That might be the better place for opening .kar files and adding RealTracks, for it lays everything out along the timeline in multitracks for easier editing.
I don't know what's up with your problem of songs starting in the 12th bar or the like, except that there really could be a problem with the Starting Bar settings in BB. They are the three boxes to the right of the Songtitle window that have numbers in them. [1] [32] [3] are the default settings when you hit New, hover your mouse over them to see the popup hint as to how to use them.
And let's all try to be friendly here.

Hi Simon. 1st of all I've known John for a long time and I'm sure he's not flaming you. I think the question was honest curiosity on his part.
If I understand your question correctly, you want to use BIAB for a KAR player, is this correct? You want to use it for its sounds if I'm not mistaken. By its sounds are you talking about the internal engine that drives it or are you talking about the use of Real Instruments?
Also, which version of BIAB and Powertracks are you using at this time? These are things we really need to know to better understand how to help you.
Please understand that most of us here are long time users and we understand how these programs function best, both for live playing and for recording.
BIAB is best used as an arranger program for creating music with. PTW is usually best for KAR activity altho', a lot of the guys here use BIAB for live performance. But they're usually using songs created in BIAB.
Here's an idea you might try. I've not tried it myself, mind you, but it might work. Import your midi songs into BIAB and save them under their name. Make sure you, at least, start them playing before doing this. Save them in a folder you want to use. They take up no space, hardly. Then try using the newly saved files and see if they start and stop where they're supposed to.
I hope this helps you. Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out.

I'd rather b natural. But I have those A# horns eh?
Perhaps a retired firefighter is the opposite of a flamer, more of a former douser.

Mac & Russell
Thank you for your replies
I have been using PTW since it was PT in the DOS days as backing tracks for my performances as a one man show, & have always been happy with it, except for the occasional time when MIDI events somehow "hang on" in the next song causing some interesting results (never happened in the the old PT), but nothing to get fussed about. When PTW allowed the use of Lyrics & Chords, I was ecstatic & changed all of my performance MID files across to the new improved KAR format. BIAB was recommended to me as a way of stopping the MIDI event problem,as it "renders" the Midi sounds to a Wav engine, and also would give me access to more sounds, & the ability to include audio.
Unfortunately, I purchased BIAB 2008.5 & upgraded to PTW 12 just shortly before the new Realband program was launched.
Mac, I have looked at the sections for bar beginning etc, and have noted that the song in question has chorus start bar 1, chorus end bar 101 (The end of the song). By playing the song in PTW, I find that Bar 1 in BIAB is the same bar as bar 12 in PTW (112 bars in total).
Russell, I have tried opening (I cannot find how to import a MID file) the MIDI song both in KAR & MID format, & save file within BIAB with no changes, still missing my 12 bar intro.
Thankyou again for your replies, hopefully we will be able to work out the problem, or I might have to go back to PTW.
