A while back I took someone's advice to heart concerning backing up my BB and RB program and material. I bought a new HP with a 640GB HD, 67GB ram and a 1 TB USB storage drive. I had just gotten most everything transfered and backed up when the new computer failed to activate the monitor. After 3 hours on the phone wth HP, they decided to return the new computer to the factory. I counted on the old computer to be able to manage my website. Unfortunately it gave up the ghost about the time I got off of the phone with HP. Will somebody shed a tear and share in my misery? Please?  Don S.

Tuff stuff Don, technology sucks! Sometimes i want to chuck it all and just play my geetar. Anyone near by that could let you pop the hard drive out and into a USB external box and move all the data nd files and pop it back in and send the system back?

If all of your data transferred to the new comps hard drive, tell'em to send you back the hard drive. Should all be on there if I understand you correctly.

Swanman is spot on with a good solution.
The biggest problem will be communicating the instructions to
the correct team _before they mess up the hard drive by re-formatting it.

The new puter croaked and then the old one croaked at the same time?
That's pushing the statistics, my friend, I would immediately suspect something is up somewhere, something that could be shared by both machines.
Power, as in same power lines, or perhaps destructive data as in virus, etc.
Viral timebomb could do it.
You have to think back also, in situations such as these, try to put together a timeline.
We know that data was copied from old machine to new and now both machines are kaput.
Whenever machines break they are trying to communicate something to you. Gotta learn how to listen.

other don, i think that's a good suggestion. as sure as death and taxes, your hard drive WILL FAIL and it WILL NEVER be at a convenient time. its murphy's law. there is a good chance that you can still recover your data. i would go to www.majorgeeks.com and ask their help.

just saw mac's post and must agree. however, if you must send your box back to hp then you are assured that the data is lost so make every effort at recovery FIRST.

the problem with that is, they won't send a new machine until they get the old one. otherwise, its a capital idea.

I agree that the chances of both computers going down in short order is pushing the odds. However, I've checked the source voltage input and am pretty sure that the old computer was virus free. My main interest in saving the old one was to be able to get online quickly to manage the website.
Anything of importance is saved on the external USB. I will look into salvaging the old HD.

If you haven't send the "new" HP back, you might want to try this first.
I had the exact same problem with a new HP a few months ago.
Rather than send it back, I had a friend take a look at it first.
He opened it up, removed the video card, re-inserted the video card and turned it back on.
It worked fine and has been working fine ever since.
He's an experienced tech but said he'd never seen this problem before.
The card looked to be in "brand new" condition and was obviously seated correctly
since I used it for about a month before it "went south"
Worth a shot!

Hi Lloyd,
The computer was shipped back on the 12th. During my time on the phone with HP tech support, they had me take out and reseat the ram cards and the bios battery.
The problem seemed to start out with the sleep and hibernate function not working properly. The tech told me I wasn't the first that this had happened to.
Thanks for the input. i should be back in business the first of next week.

I got the new computer back from HP. It displayed on the monitor once and then reverted to it's old habits. I took it to my daughters and found that my monitor and monitor cable worked on her computer. When I plugged her monitor into my computer, it went dead. Anyhow, I've got a guy looking at it who thinks it is the intergrated vidio card. He is going to try a digital cable to see if that works. So, it may be going back to HP. On the bright side, I'm on the old computer now. We changed the power supply and bios battery. It's good to have my old friend back. Don S.

Here's a little story for you, Don. My ladyfriend is basically an average user when it comes to PC's, she can do emails, plug in her camera, use Word and a few things like that but nothing heavy. She had a new Compaq crap out the same year that Compaq itself crapped out. She spent hours on the phone, got nowhere, sent the box to them in Texas, was told they replaced something or other, received it back, nada, they finally had a tech come out to her house and he told her it needed a new mobo and took it with him. She has a short fuse with stuff like this and after another 10 days or so going back and forth on the phone and no computer, she sued them in small claims in Santa Monica for the maximum of $5,500 at that time. She went to court, nobody showed from Compaq and she won the default judgment. She still has a copy of their check framed on her workroom wall like a hunter with a 9 point buck. You don't mess with this lady, she will get you. I joked at the time that she must have been that last straw that broke Compaq's back. She said she hoped so, they deserved it.

The new one is finally up and running. It turns out that using a digital rather than analogue cable solved the monitor problem.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums.
