Well last year it was definitely the new Zplane’s élastique stretch software which brought great improvements to the tempo variation and sound quality of the stretch.

2012 has three major improvements to the quality of the sound.
1) The direct guitar/bass was a great idea! Now electric guitar and basses sound more clear and have more attack and movement as a results of the live amp/effects
2) The VST for each track is great for improving the synths sounds and trying out different sounds before dragging into a DAW.
3) The ability to easily use parts from other styles makes it much easier to add strings and Synth sounds to the real track combos, thus augmenting the real styles.

To top it off the new Band Style button makes it easy to have my favorite styles one click away.

If I had one wish for improved sound it would be Multi-track drums. Either via mirror MIDI drums tracks for each Real Drum, or via multi-track real tracks.

Thanks!

Good points.

As to putting the drums on different tracks, I suppose you mean I could mess with the snare, OR jack up the cowbell.

Note that this is implemented, for in the loops feature there is cowbell. No need any longer to pine for that.

Also you can find a nice jingle bells loop on the net, and just mute and unmute it where needed. Between jingle bells and cowbells coming in and out, trance music isn't far away.

Yes separate tracks for at least the major drums
1 Kick
2 Snares
3 Toms
4 Cymbals

The easiest way to give us full control over the drum mix would be to give us MIDI tracks that follow the Real Drums exactly. We could then assign a VST drum synths to control the mix. This would yield a similar benefit as “direct in for guitar” approach but for the drums.

But I am guessing that they do not have that MIDI data since the existing real drums were probably recorded with just analog signal. It would require them to rerecord all Real-drums through an Electric drum set to capture both MIDI and the recorded sound.

Well, they *might* have applied MIDI sensors to the drumkits they recorded, and recorded both at the same time. Don't know if that's what they did, but it is what I often do when recording a drumkit in the booth.

I would think that in the original recordings of the drum tracks, they were all recorded on separate tracks, no ? Then mixed to a single stereo RealTrack. So the individual drum tracks should exist in multi-track format ? Maybe it's just too much to get this feature built in...dunno. Would sure be nice to add reverb to the snare track but not the kick drum track though !

I hope one or both of you guys are right.

I asked support if there was a way to generate the equivalent MIDI track for a real-drum last year and they said no.

I just did some testing on it again today and if you force real-drums off for the track you get a machine like drum substitute track (MIDI based)

I also notice a pretty big hole in the drag design. There is no way to override or bypass the VST effect so you can’t get the "direct in" guitar unless you bypass each VST individually.

This would allow us that want to do final sound design in our DAW. So we may try a VST guitar amp but would want to re-map in our DAW.

I will start a new thread to ask for that very basic functionality.

If you uncheck the RealDrum on the drum track, then what you get will be the original MIDI drums from the underlying original style. This MIDI drum track does not "track" with the RealDrum - they are two completely different things.

I echo jpettit request for a minimum of the "major drums": kick, snare, toms and cymbals. I think I would add hi-hat. I'll only add that what is required is *not* MIDI equivalents - but real multi-track drums. Specifically:

Kick - mono track
Snare - mono track
Hi-Hat - mono track
Toms - stereo track
Cymbals - stereo track

That would be minimum...

The request for separated drums should be in the Wishlist where PG Music will see it and we can do our "+1"s.

1) More than one VSTi feature
2) Loops
3) As usual: Great new Realtracks (personally: Dixieland and Funk/Fusion)

.

There is another feature that is not actually mentioned. The Realtracks are more musical. They seem to be closer to what a real player would do in terms of phrasing and development. Now the parts sound like the players are thinking about the whole 32 bars and not just two bars ahead. There is a nice continuity from beginning to end, as though the player were telling a story.

I mentioned this on one of these forums someplace and Peter chimed in to confirm it. He said that instead of looking just at the construction of each chord, the RT generator considers the function of each chord. Like, what do the tonic and subdominant and all the other chords actually do? The roles that each chord plays is somehow brought to bear when the RealTrack-o-matic puts the parts together.

Sounds great to me. Anybody else notice this?

1. Ability to use individual MIDI tracks
2. Easy selection of Drum Grooves
3. New filters implemented for searching MIDI or Realtracks. These search boxes works really well, and make the process of choosing the right MIDI or Realtrack much easier and faster. They work so well, in fact, that I would to have them replacing all the old search boxes all over the program (I would like this kind of search box, for example, in the Soloist Picker Window).
