Hello,

I used to know how to do this but I'm pressed for time this morning.

How do you tell BIAB to change key every chorus?

Or to change key every time it loops through a tune?

Thanks!

Ah. Seeker, I see what you mean, but that's not quite what I had in mind.

There is/was a dialogue that would let you do this without editing the tune. I may be thinking of the jukebox, but I thought the loop feature (as in causing the tune to start playing as soon as it's finished) had some options, too.

OK, I sort of found what I was looking for with the Thru-Transpose (Ctrl-Shift-K) settings. There are two problems with real-band (_JAZFRED):

(1) Play is interrupted/delayed/garbled at the end of a chorus when the new key is recomputed.

(2) Only the bass player got the word about the key change. The guitar and piano soldier on in the old key.

(3) I'm playing along with just bass and drums, and the key has changed twice like I set it up to do (change key every chorus). I press Ctrl-H to pause. When I press Ctrl-H to resume playing, the key reverts to the key of the first chorus.

PS - These aren't just RealBand problems!

Edits: add PS. Add #3

Try doing it from the PREFS -> Transpose window...

Study the settings there, lots can be done.

Yeah, that's the same as the Ctrl-Shift-K menu unless I'm mistaken.

But what about those bugs?

Yes, pause will end that feature, so you'd need to avoid hitting pause.

We will look into the issue that are having. In the meantime, you could add a MIDi piano track to the Real bass and drums.

Hi SaxMaam,

On our tests, the feature works as expected, which is that with each key change (every chorus etc.), it does need to regenerate tracks, and if you are using RealTracks, this would mean a delay (if you use a MIDI style, there is almost no delay). We didn't notice any transpose issues, if you are noticing those, it might be due to a slow PC that can't keep up with the transposition.

If its a slow PC, likely not much we can do about it.. other than move to "Plan B"

As with a lot of things in Band-in-a-Box, there's more than 1 way to do the same thing.

So, you can do it as follows:
1. Assume you have a song loaded, with 32 bar form, and 6 choruses.
2. Choose Edit - Copy from to .. Set it to copy 32 bars from bar 1 to bar 33. Set it to repeat the copy 6 times, and tranpose it 5 semitiones (up a 4th) with each tranpose.
3. Now set the # of choruses to 1, and the end of the chorus to be bar 192 (instead of bar 32).

Now the song will play as a one long chorus, and you get transpositions every 32 bars.
A bonus about doing it this way, is that you can control what the transpositions are (ie use custom keys by doing multiple copies).

BTW, the example above gets you 6 keys.

If you want to do the other 6 keys, just transpose the tune up 1 semitone, and press Play.

also, remember these hotkeys

trf <ENTER> <----- transposes the key to F
trbb <Enter> <----- transposes the key to Bb etc.

and you can do that as the song is playing.

For example, if you're playing a song, and get inspired to play it in G, just hit trg <enter> and it will continue playing in the new key (after a few second delay)

Hey Peter,

I would suggest that Ctrl-H twice in a row (once to pause, once to resume) shouldn't reset the transposition. Play continues from where it left off; so why should the key get reset?

Today I tried my file again with the "transpose every chorus" setting, and the comping instruments changed key like they were supposed to. If I can figure out how to provoke the problem, I'll let you know.

Hey, that's cool and I never knew about those before. Thanks!
