Have been a Band-in-a-Box user for about 10 years, have used it throughout that whole time without having to become a guru. Just got 2012, and love it.
For the most part, I've been very content over the years, and I've got a lot of miles from it. About every 2 or 3 years, I buy the update because PG has kept improving the program.
One thing, though. I have an arrangement of 'Chega de Saudade (No More Blues)' that starts with a measure of Dm followed by a measure of Dm/C (it resolves to E7/B, like most such opening phrases in Brazilian music).
It drives me nuts that the Dm/C measure is nearly always (actually ALWAYS, so far) assigned to a pattern that plays 4 straight quarter-note chords in both the guitar and piano. In a music that relies so heavily on syncopation, that's a 'stand up and take notice' pattern that really doesn't belong in such a prominent and frequently encountered location. I've been living with it in that position for 3 years now, and it's starting to get old.
I can't seem to get rid of it, and I've tried muting most of the relevant patterns in stylemaker, but no luck. RealTracks patterns must not be set up to respond to stylemaker.
Is there anything I can do to identify and mute that pattern? I was hoping it would go away with the new bossas, but it seems as though it's in every single bossa style released in RealTracks.
I'll put this in the wishlist if that's where this needs to go. I'd like to find out, though, that I've overlooked something.
Thanks.

I can't duplicate any issue like that. Instead of Dm/C, use Dm7/C I just tried it with _BOSSAG, and it plays fine. But I also tried it with Dm/C and it played fine there too. (by fine, I mean the guitar plays a nice syncopated pattern, not 4 quarter notes. In fact the guitar pushes into the bar, which is nice. I also tried it with another bossa style _BNGGRMD (Med Bossa w/Piano NY), and that was fine too. (both of those styles are accessed from the "Band" button, which is a feature of 2012, but of course you can access them from the StylePicker too. You can hear that here http://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/jazzu/misc/BossaDemo23.WMAand the sgu song that made it here http://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/jazzu/misc/BossaDemo23.SGUIt is just playing this: Dm Dm7/C E7/B using the style _BNGGRMD (Med Bossa w/Piano NY) So I need to know what style you are using, and what chords. Perhaps there is something in the song (a style change, time sig change etc.) that is causing the issue. Perhaps send the song to support@pgmusic.com if you are still having problems.

Hi Peter,
I wouldn't have thought to enter Dm7/C. Leadsheets always just write it as Dm/C, which is a Dm7 anyway.
The style I was using is _BOSMEDL, which is from RT16, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not exactly sure which other bossa styles do the same thing, but it was several of them.
OK, just tried your Dm7/C, and it stopped the quarter-note pattern. Hooray!
I saved the song, loaded it from disk, and changed the Dm7/C back to Dm/C, and the quarter notes came back.
Never mind... the Dm7/C trick works a treat, and that's what I'll use.
Thanks for a quick response on New Year's Eve, Peter! In spite of my enthusiasm at your being at your desk, though, I reckon you should go and have a bit of a holiday break!!!
Happy New Year, and may you prosper in future versions of BIAB! Doug

OK, my bad.
I downloaded a lot of the new RealTracks, but I didn't download the new ones for RealTracks 1-39 right away because it was taking a lot of time.
I was using _BOSMEDL, a multistyle from the 2009 RealTracks RT16. Once I downloaded RT16 from 2012 and overlaid the old one, the problem also went away. It's still sort of there (the measure sounds quite open, the bass is on 1 and 3, and the guitar just strokes the first beat on the beat). But at least it's not really in-your-face like it used to be.
And, thanks to Peter's timely suggestion, I've got a workaround that makes it sound a lot better (Dm7/C instead of Dm/C).
So all's well that ends well.
Thanks.

Yes, with 2012 we made improvements in the Realtracks for that specific issue, and that requires that download.

I upgraded from 2011 ultra plus pak to 2012 ultra plus pak (download option only) and just downloaded the realtracks that I didn't have.
I have applied all the 2011 updates to realtracks.
Is there any need for me to download any of the older realtracks such as 1-39 to avail of additional improvements to them in 2012?
Thanks Musiclover

I'm out on a limb of a sort here, but to my feeble mind the answer is no.
But stuff always gets better.
One of the new real tracks phoned me last night and wanted to borrow 50 bucks and my car. Geez, bass players.

Those updates should do the trick, if you have downloaded and installed them all.
Happy New Year!
