All,
I'm enjoying Biab 2012 build 349, but I'm experiencing an out of memory error when I try to play an amplitude demo song:
_ELECAMP Demo (Amplitube demo using ElecRock RealTracks DI Guitars).SGU

If I open instead the _SHINAMP Demo (Amplitube Demo using DI Guitar Soloist with Pop.SGU I don't get that error.

Sometime even a simple arrangement (one chord !) generates the same error.

I have to say, on my pc runs winXP with only 1 Gb of ram, could that be the problem ?

But then why do I get the same error also with simple arrangements without any VST plugin loaded ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. For reference, I've included a picture here:
out of memory

Regards,
Sergio.

Hello Sergio,

Does it happen every time you try to play that particular demo song, or is it only occasionally? Note - after it has happened once, you might need to reboot the program to get 'back to normal'.

Hello Andrew,

it happens in the following situations:
- each time I load that particular file, and press the play button, and
- often, when BiaB starts and shows an empty chord sheet, where the only chord present is "C", and I do nothing but press the play button, the same error occurs.

I've noticed that the memory address displayed in the error message, is always the same.

When then I press ok on the error message, and attempt to press the play button again, then comes the yellow warning message (top right on the screen) that informs me, that the song generation is already in progress, and suggests me that if the error persists, I should load a new file.

Sadly nothing will be generated. I have to close BiaB and start with a new song.

Additional infos:

- I've tried with ASIO and MME driver - the same occurs.

- I have also disabled the antivirus (avast) running in background - still no joy.

- The windows task manager (control+alt+canc) shows a really busy cpu (between 80 and 100%) - especially when Amplitube is in use.

- During a song play, when I move the plugins floating window that contains Amplitude, the sound interrupts for a while (I think it's because the cpu is very busy).

I'm quite sure that this issue is related to the Ram of my pc, which, as said, is "only" 1 Gb; anyway, I'm surprised to see the same problem also with a simple song made of just one chord (as described above).

Should I perform a particular test to help you to find the cause of the problem ? Please let me know.

Regards,
Sergio.

Hi,

After rebooting the program, go to the Audio menu | Audio Drivers/Settings, and uncheck "use realtime audio plugins". Then, play that same demo song and see if you get the same error.

Assuming you do get the same error, see if you can then isolate it to being caused by a specific track/instrument. For example, after rebooting the program, load in the same demo song, and disable all tracks except the drum track. To do this, right-click on the track and click the 'track is enabled' option so it is unchecked. In your screenshot, it seems to have stopped while loading in the drums track.

Andrew,
here is the test report:

- after setting the audio to not to use the plugins, I get the same error.
- I have then muted the drum track, and the song plays - even with the 'use dx plugins' setting.

Then I've tried to assign a real drum to the drums. There's a checkbox in the realdrum pane, 'show all the realdrums that are N/A'. I've checked it, and it shows.. the same realdrum list as if it was unchecked.

It seems I can't change the realdrumd on the drum channel on that particular song - may there is a style setting that prevent this ?

It seems to me, that the everything pack installation has messed up the realdrums.. what to do next ? Am I missing some realdrums update ? Or is that song demo that is in some way 'corrupted' ?

Thanks to nail the problem down,
Sergio.

Is the problem only with the RockHardModernEv8^ Drums, or do you get the same error with other RealDrums styles also?

That's how it should be for you. The "Show N/A..." checkbox wouldn't have any affect in your case, since you should have all of the RealDrums (because you have the EverythingPAK).

Does the same error happen if you plug in your Band-in-a-Box USB hard drive and use THAT drums folder? (i.e. by setting the RealDrums Preferences to use a 'custom Drums folder location). If not, maybe the Drums folder on your C: drive has older or missing files for some reason. You could copy the Drums folder from the USB drive to your C drive, replacing the existing folder you have there.

Andrew,

if I erase my local directory c:\bb and then copy the whole directory "bb" from the PGMusic USB drive to my pc on c:\bb, could that solve the problem ? Of course I have first to backup some data I have inside the c:\bb directory, but theoretically it should work, shouldn't it ?

That way I would have a clean 2012 build 349 working. Could you confirm this ?

Sergio.

I think all of us just install it overtop. In this case copy it overtop, same thing.

But to do what Andrew told you just plug in the hard drive and go to options RealDrums and change the path to whatever the hard drive has after you plug it in.

For example you plug in the drive and it says it's F:
just start band in a box
go to Opts Prefs and then
Click RealDrums and change the location to F:\bb\RealDrums

It that works then just copy the Realdrums files over. Or anything else.

If you have Vista OR Win 7 get administrator permission first.

You could copy the bb folder from the USB drive and it would work. Or you could run the Band-in-a-Box Setup.exe on the USB drive - if you install to a new bb folder (rather than just copying the folder), this will be a fresh install of the program at factory settings.

However, since we don't yet know what is causing the problem, I would suggest that you first try setting the Drums folder on the USB drive as your RealDrums folder and see if this makes the error go away. If it does, then instead of copying the entire BB folder, just copy the Drums folder.

Hi John and Andrew,
thanks for the detailed tips, but still no joy.

I've tried the following:

1)
- plugged in the PG music USB disk (system says it is F:)
- started BiaB on my local C:\bb folder. Set the Drums folder in pref to point to F:\bb\drums.
- loaded the ELECAMP demo (as described above)
- pressed play: out of memory error

2)
- plugged in the PG music USB disk (F:)
- started BiaB with command F:\bb\bbw.exe
- BiaB complained that the directory F:\bb\DragDrop is corrupted
- loaded the ELECAMP demo as above
- pressed play: it plays, but no Amplitube recognized (I should have tell F:\bb\BiaB to load the Amplitude plugin, but I did not want to change the content of F:\bb)

3)
- plugged in the PG music USB disk (F:)
- renamed my local C:\bb to C:\bb_backup
- copied F:\bb to C:\bb (have to exclude the corrupted F:\bb\DragDrop directory from the selection in order to do that)
- Pressed Plugins and added the Amplitude to the list
- loaded the ELECAMP demo as above
- pressed play: out of memory error

I thought that a fresh copy of BiaB on my local drive (C:\bb) should have worked, but it did not. Could that be a problem related to the pc Ram, which is actually of 1Gb ?

Further investigation: the following test was made with the fresh copy from F:\bb on the local C:\bb directory (as described in step 3)
- run BiaB from c:\bb
- load the ELECAMP demo as above
- dx plugin set to "none" to bass, guitar and string
- press play: song will generated and played.

Then I have:
- added dx plugin Amplitude to Bass, Guitar and String with the same setting (well, at least with the same Stomp, Amp, Cab, Rack, mic and room) as in the original
- pressed play: song will generated and played - with the Amplitude effects running.

Dulcis in fundo:
- I've then saved that song with another name (ex. corrected_elecamp_ etc..)
- quit BiaB
- ran BiaB (always from C:\bb)
- loaded the new corrected saved song
- pressed play: out of memory error

I start to think there's something wrong in the style setting.. otherwise I have no clue.

Regards,
Sergio.

Did you install Amplitube to your C drive?

Do you get the same error if you use a RealDrums style OTHER than RockHardModernEv8^ in that song? I thought we had previously narrowed it down to likely being caused by the Drums track?

Yes.

If I use a RealDrums style OTHER than RockHardModernEv8^ in that song, everything works as expected.

To summarize: neither the RockHardModernEv8^ on the C:\bb nor the one on the PG Usb drive have worked.

Sergio.

Ok - please see the message sent via PM (private message) with instructions for downloading that style, and we'll see if this fixes it.

I was having and issue like that and I reinstalled the entire package on my C drive and it resolved the issue. The amplitube demos seem to load a little slower though.

Andrew,
thanks for the support, but still no joy.

File downloaded, the old realdrum RockHardModernEv8^ as OLD_RockHardModernEv8^ renamed, the downloaded RockHardModernEv8^.zip in the drums folder unzipped, a new RockHardModernEv8^ folder was created, ran biab, loaded the ELECAMP demo as usually, pressed play:
out of memory.

Stephan326,
thanks, I may consider this option, but without great expectation, since I've already copied the whole bb folder from the Usb drive to the local C:\bb drive, and nothing has changed, as described above.

Sergio.

Strange... Could you please send an email to support@pgmusic.com with a reference to this forum post - and we'll continue this discussion that way. Perhaps it is in fact an issue with the 1GB RAM as you first suggested, however we haven't seen any other issues like it. Hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of it.

Quote:

Yes, this is normal since the songs are saved with plugins and presets, which need to all be loaded when the song is loaded.
