I have a question. I have connected my yamaha motif 88 to my computer and within biab selected the mme driver which is the only one I could get to work other than the yamaha drivers from the keyboard. I created a song within biab. I want to play along with it on the keyboard but there is a delay from the notes being played. I even disconnected the audio cables from the computer and it still is this way. The only way I can seem to play along with it is to totally disconect my piano from the computer. Is there a fix for this. thanks Glenda

Hi Glenda. What you are describing is called latency. It occurs because it takes time to route and process midi commands. There are ways to reduce the latency to acceptable levels.
The first, and best, way is to use ASIO drivers instead of MME. If your onboard sound card has ASIO support you should see a selection if you go to Opt|Midi Audio Settings. In the setup dialog choose audio drivers. In the audio driver setup dialog look for a drop down in the top right corner. It'll say MME. Click the button and change to ASIO. A dialog will come up showing the available ASIO drivers or you'll get a message saying there are no ASIO drivers installed on your system.
If you have no ASIO drivers available you could try Asio4All. Google it and download. When you install it you can run it as above.
Failing that you can try adjusting the latency setting in the Midi/Audio setup dialog. Just increase the setting (around 430 ms usually works) untill your keys play without a noticible delay. I think there's also a feature to help you set the latency automattically.
Basically, adjusting the latency delays BiaB output to match the latency of the keyboard.
Hope this helps a little.

By the way, there's some more info on this subject on the BiaB wiki that might help.

Thanks for your help. I did try to download the asio4all driver but got an error message when I tried to install it wasn't compatible for my version of windows. I will do some research and see if I can find out why or what I need to do. I did change the latency in mme to your suggested amount and it did seem to solve the delay problem. It seems like every time I open biab it behaves differently. I am enjoying this program though but it does come with it's share of frustrations. I have SO much to learn. Thanks again for your input. Asio4All is the way to go if you want to play your keyboaard through the PC. It usually works quite well so check you tried to load the latest version and that it is compatible with your windows version.
BTW, it would be very useful if you put your PC specs and other relevant info in your signature. That way when someone tries to help they will automatically know what system you have.
I'm sure BiaB sems complicated at first but hang in there, you'll be a power user in no time. Have fun.

Motif 88 has its own soundbank, and a good one.
With proper MIDI connection and setup of BB, you could fire the Motif's MIDI sounds - and enjoy the zero latency of a hardware synthesizer. Select the MIDI Output window selection that is the send to the Motif. Do not check the "Use DXi" button. If you do it this way, be advised that you will not be able to do the instant "Render" of songs to audio file, as the sounds are no longer inside the computer. However, the entire performance can be recorded manually from beginning to end to the Audio track and the result is the same.
If you want to use the software DXi MIDI synth inside BiaB instead, be sure to check the "Route MIDI Thru" box below the Use DXi checkbox and make sure that the Microsoft Software Synth is highlighted in the upper window as well. This can be done with MME standard Windows sound drivers or you can use ASIO if available.

ok, it seems the more I do here the bigger my problem gets. I now when I record a song directly from my keyboard it only has one track ..an audio track. Before when it would ask me if I wanted to keep the take it would say it was putting audio on a different track. That isn't an option now. There is only one recorded track and it is audio. I want to see the notes that have been played so I can print the song out. ugh. I think I am going backwards. glenda

If you do not have the MIDI cables connected to the computer, and selected in the software, as well as the Audio cables, you won't record any MIDI data and thus cannot get the desired naotation, which comes from the MIDI side of things.

The usb cable is connected from the keyboard to the computer. The yamaha drivers are selected but when I play something on the keyboard, it doesn't show up on the virtual keyboard. My first thought was that maybe my cable had gone bad but if that were the case, the yamama drivers wouldn't show up in the rb software would it? I've tried everything I can think of and it only is record audio, no midi at all. Glenda

Hi Glenda
If the virtual keyboard is not showing up, then the MIDI message isn't being transmitted from the keyboard.
I've had this problem myself and it turned out to be one of two things (at least in my case but it might help you as well)
I hadn't selected my keyboard as the MIDI input device so nothing was getting sent out, but as you have selected your keyboard as the input the other thing may be (as was my case)to check the MIDI transmit channel on your keyboard.
Hope it helps.
