I am using BiaB 2012 (349) and want to use VST/DXi Synth (CoyoteWT) and for some sounds the Garritan Jazz & Big Band 3. I am using a Laptop with MS Win XP.

I have installed the driver for and connected an Edirol UA- 1X USB audio interface and am happy with the sounds coming out of my PA. However I have also installed the driver for and connected a Roland UM-One USB MIDI interface in order to “Output Chords” to my T C Helicon Voice Works.

When I select use vst/DXi synth in the MIDI/Audio Driver Setup the MIDI Out light on the UM-One does not light up.

The choices shown under “MIDI Output Driver” are;
No MIDI/sound output
Microsoft MIDI
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
Roland VSC
UM-ONE

These selections have only effect when I do not select “Use VST7DXi Synth” box. When I select UM-ONE only Real Instruments will be heard. All the other choices also show no MIDI Out light activity.
If I select the UM-ONE connect it’s MIDI out cable to a MIDI sound module (a Roland XV-5050) and daisy-chain it with a MIDI cable to the Voice Works everything works, however my MIDI sounds from BiaB are reproduced by to a MIDI sound module and not by the CoyoteWT.

Is there something I might have overlooked?

Been there done that. For all practical purposes what your topic asks cannot be done in BIAB. You can not use a Dxi soft synth and send midi to a hardware device (incluidng Output Chords to the TCHelicon) at the same time.

We had a very long discussion on this in the Fall of 2011 when John and I worked through this topic at great detail. There are workarounds but the facts remain.

BIAB – 2026, Reaper (current), i7-12700F Processor, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM, Motu Audio Express 6x6 - My SoundCloud.

Hi Harv,
haven't used realband much, does it Output chords to an arranger keyboard like BIAB does, or are you reffering to something different.

Would you care to point me to those discussions or elaborate on those workarounds as this issue appears to be basically the same one I am having. I have tried everything I have ever heard of being discussed as a possible solution and have found no way to solve the problem. Seems to be an issue related to Microsoft's changes of sound management in Win 7 from XP. It
appears to be their desire to accomodate "Gamers" at the expense of musicians, composers and songwrites but to me it is a step backward in sound management.
