Hi folks,

I was just wondering which of the real tracks are best sounding and most effective for country music. Pedal steel banjo or fiddle what do you reckon does the best Job?

many thanks
paddy

I'd have to say that would depend upon which type of country music you want to make at the time.

The various RealTracks are rather self-explanatory as far as that goes, take advantage of the pgmusic demo files and listen to them, only YOU know what you want in your productions.

I think quite a few of those instruments are appropriate for country style stuff, especially the fiddles, pedal steels and some of the acoustic strum patterns. For example here are a couple of country tunes I did this month with the RealTrack #'s listed as examples.

Going Down to Poplar Drive : MP3: http://www.soundclick.com/share?songid=6470939
RealTracks: Pedal Steel (#621) , Harmonica (#602) , Acoustic Guitar (#406), Bass (#521), RealDrums: Nashville Even 16, Variation #1

When That Hammer Comes Down: MP3: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5613482
RealTracks: Pedal Steel (#612) , Fiddles (#409 and #618) , Acoustic Guitar (#372), Bass (#536), RealDrums: Country Shuffle

You've just got to experiment with your songs, though. Heck you might find that the rhythm metal electric guitar sounds good on one of your tunes (well, maybe not).

Hi again,

Thanks for replies.
Kemmrich the songs are great especially the one Going Down to Poplar Drive is absolutely brilliant.

I wonder for that particular song what parts are actually realtracks and what parts are done the ordinary way. Is the solo realtracks?

paddy, They're all RTs. If you take another look at his posting you will see that he lists the tracks that he used.

Kevin, your songs are very good.

Don't limit yourself to just the 'country' tracks. There are some very nice 'pop' acoustic picking which would probably go very well for some country songs.

pwhack: It is mostly all real tracks. For "Poplar Drive", the vocals are live, the short acoustic solo from 1:21 to 1:38 is live and I added an live electric guitar rhythm part during the choruses. For "Hammer", all the vocals are live and I added a couple of electric guitar parts -- the "spaghetti western" type stuff and the solo. All the rest are all RealTracks. The Pop Bass is good for country, too.

pwhack and DanL: Thanks for the kind words.

Kevin

There is no such thing as "just country", use what you want, God know's Nashville does. If you keep it old school, these days your song will go no where fast

Excellent point, Zan.

Actually, the more BIAB styles and RealTracks/RealDrums you have available, the more you will be able to accomplish.

There is a LOT of crossover to be had between the styles -- and that goes for all genres, not just country, but country players these days may just encompass more things taken from other genres than any other.

The Blues styles, for one example. Many can be used in a song that would be labled as "country" or C&W, etc. and the same can be said for many of the Rock styles and instruments, too.

To add to that point, so are the real drums as I have quite a few Nashville drums backing Oldies and even some old school R&B tunes. Take off the blinders and explore the possibilities.
