hi gang

was wondering if i could get some input on a song that's giving me some problems right now.
this is a song that was created and saved as a type o midi.
it only has 4 tracks to it trk 4 bass guitar...trk 5 brass....trk 6 piano...trk 10 drums standard kit.

the problem i'm having is...i can hear and view all tracks in either BIAB or Real band...but when i save...i'm saving as a type 1 midi file....and when i play it on my yamaha key board...

only the count i put in on the drum track....the bass line and drums play...
the brass and piano are not saving and playing on the keyboard...

any thought's on this one..
thanks cajun

Hi cajun,
Are the brass and piano tracks not saving or are they saved but not playing on the keyboard?

If they are not saving they may be muted thus they are not included in the save. You may also want to try putting the piano on channel 3 and the brass on channel 7 and see if that helps. You mentioned tracks but what are the midi channels associated with those tracks?

If the tracks are indeed saved make sure the saved track midi channels match your keyboard midi channels. If they do then check the tracks for CC numbers 7 and 11. These CC numbers control midi volume.

Let us know how you make out. Plus if this didn’t help a little more information would be a great help.

thanks for the response ,yes the tracks are saved to the song and will generate and play in
BIAB and play in Real band...

but when i save the song as a type 1 midi.....it will only play the stick count i added
the drum track which is track 10 and the bass track which is track 4

the brass track is on track 5 and the brass track is on track 6....these are the track numbers as it shows from the melody window and the 16 track sequencer section..

now just thinking here what if in the preference section under channels its listed different from the sequence section in BIAB will this effect it?...because i think those numbers may be different..

thanks

Cajun,

I don't know if this will help ...

When you're in BIAB, have you used Realtracks for Piano, Guitar, etc? If you so, Realtracks are not meant to save as MIDI. To get a MIDI file, it's necessary to use a fully MIDI style.

Out of curiosity, what style are you using?

Just a thought.

Cajun,

The "X" indicates that the style is disabled. This would be the problem. What you'd be hearing on playback is an audio recording.

To enable the style, right click on the style name and activate "Style enabled". You may need to mute your audio though as there will be multiple sounds playing and these may not fit together too well.

Miles Slow Funk Fusion is a MIDI style. Thus, if you enable the style, generate the tracks, it should then be possible to save it as a MIDI file.

Noel

i enabled the style and saved to type 1 midi....when i play it in my keyboard (yamaha)
i get a different drum beat thats weird sounding to the midi somewhat...

but the piano and brass parts are still missing....i can understand why my bass midi track's and drums will save....but the piano and brass are gone....but yet they play in BIAB and Realband playbacks...

where would i find the CC values that mario mentioned?...i'm ready to check that out..

also something worth mentioning and i don't know if this matters...but on this midi
it start's with a piano introduction of about 3 grids ...i don't know if one grid is a bar or not so i'll call it 3 grids in piano roll...

my stick count go's to grid 1A....then 3 grids or bars of piano introduction....then bass
drums and brass come in...

i was reading in the manuel about lead in's....would this be considered a lead in the 3 grid piano part or 3 bars...and adjustments must be made for it?

Cajun,

Have you tred opening the MIDI file in Windows to see if it works? We need to know if the problem is in the file itself or in the way that the Yamaha interprets it.

Go to the MIDI file and double click on it. It will probably open in Media player. Let us know what happens.

Regards,
Noel

Yamaha uses a different MIDI patch numbering system.

Whereas most synths use the Roland "one based" system, where the Grand Piano is 001 and goes thru to 128 at the last instrument, Yamaha is "zero based" and the Grand Piano is 000 with the last instrument being 127.

This has nothing to do with "Type 1" or "Type 0" MIDI files. Type 1 is multitracked, Type 0 saves all the tracks on one track.

Your Yamaha may also use a different MIDI channel for drums than channel 10, although that is a rather older thing. Likely the drums sounded weird because you were attempting to play back a Roland one based file on the Yamaha's zero based synth.

The manual for your keyboard will tell you where the patches start and stop. Yamaha only made a small handful of keyboards that had the "GM" sticker on them and would work with one based.

So it sounds like i would be better off saving my work to a type zero format for the yamaha board and not have to rechannel everything to a single channel in the melody window
Right?...thats what i did the last one...rechanneled everything to channel 4 and it worked..

weird how some can be saved to a type one in this yamaha mm6 board and play and others won't....oh well at least i gained some ground....i've been fighting to get that song to play for almost two weeks now...lol....i'm glad it works now.
