Hi, Dave -
I responded to your email. The two files you sent me both had .SGU file extensions, which means they won't have a melody or soloist track. Files with a .MGU extension will have the melody (or soloist track).
I found copies of the two files in my collection (not exactly the same, since I noticed they were in different keys) with melodies (.MGU files) and sent those back to you. Maybe that will help a little.
You need to look for .MGU files for the ones with melodies, however.

Hi John
thanks for your help,both those two files were mgu tiles and these are some of the one where the melodies vanished and as you see there is no way of telling why and how,thanks for the two files it was nice of you to send them,i think it was something to do with the automatic changeing of real track as i noticed a dialog box sayin it has changed the style for a real tracks just a thought.

A songfile Saved as .mgu (Melody included) stays that way unless and until the User wipes the Melody and also Saves the song that way as .sgu. Even then, it would not overwrite the .mgu version.
Try using the Search feature inside BB to search for all instances of songs with the same name, your .mgu files may just be in another folder or something.
BB can do a lot of strange things at times, but changing .mgu to .sgu is just not one of 'em...

Dave,
Did you load any Realtracks into the Melody track? If the Realtrack had midi notation, this might have overwritten your Melody.
I've tried this and loading Realtracks into the Melody slot (and presumably the Soloist) does write over any existing melody.

Even if a Realtrack got loaded in place of a MIDI melody, one would be prompted as to the Save when attempting to close the file.
And even if it was to save ss .mgu, would not there be the prompt regarding overwriting the existing .mgu file of that name?

you are right in what you say and i agree completely BUT it happerned so i don`t agree when you say it can`t there is all ways a time when things line up in a certain way and you get a fault that no one else has had but there again i have been so wrong on many occaistions may be its the same with this problem thank goodness on this one i saved my jazz tunes file so there is no big deal thanks for your intrest and your time and its good to see you about again

Like Mac, I'm not seeing how this could happen. If you open an MGU and even if you strip out the melody (or even if somehow the program did that, which would mean there's a problem with your setup), when you save it, it becomes and SGU file (like the ones you sent me) and the original MGU file is still preserved on disk. This is really an odd problem; not sure how this could happen. There has to be a logical explanation.
