Not true, ot at the least that statement needs to be qualified.

There are MIDI devices that do indeed take all of the tuning foibles of the instruments into account.

There are also MIDI devices that can easily do Equal Temperament tuning and at the touch of a button switch over to Just Intonation - as well as a few other schemes.

Most MIDI Piano samplings today are also Stretch Tuned, just like the real thing.
