Hi
does anybody know how to combine disk C with disk D to make a bigger disk C this is a acer aspire7730ZG laptop computer running vista thanks for any help

Dave, you will need a Partition Manager and there are many free ones available on the web.
Check to ensure Vista/Win 7 compatibility.

Yes, Partition Manager *should* be able to do the job, but one should always make backups first when engaging in something of this sort. A USB drive is handy, just copy all needed files to it first.
I cannot count the number of Acer laptops encountered across the test bench where the owner either didn't even realize that there was a D: partition sitting there empty, or negleted to ever use it. Of course, their problem usually was that the C: drive was stuffed beyond belief and fragmented. Why ACER chose to divide the disk in half into two equal sized partitions like that is a puzzlement.

Usually it's recommended to reserve the C partion for the system and have data stored on a different partition. With such a partition scheme it usually would be no problem for your data, if the C partition needs to get reformatted in case of more severe system troubles.

Step one: Obtain an external USB drive with open space larger than the drive on which you want to change partitions
Step two: Download EASUS Disk Copy Free and use it to copy your existing hard drive to the external USB drive
Step three: Download EASUS Partition Master to re-partition the drive in the lappy.
Should be good. Easy to use software that works for this very purpose.

If I remember correctly, EASUS Partition Master will re-partition your drive without loss of existing data. That is the one that I used but had forgotten the name. Excellent GUI.
