Hey PG music,

In a recent post Matt said this:
"This forum software loses older posts. A tremendous amount of knowledge is regularly lost."

Is there any way you can implement a system so that either the older posts are not lost OR that important posts are moved to an archive section that doesn't get dropped.

Some of the answers to question I've read have saved me hours of frustration and hair tearing out - surely this would be an excellent additional further resource to offer people who use BIAB? that would cost little time or money to PG Music as once the 'system' is put in place the content is actually provided (for free) by helpful guys like Matt and Mac...and all the others....

The better way is to get into using the PGMusic FAQS.

You can access the page by clicking down there in my signature file, among other methods.

When you bring up the page for your particular program, use ctrl-f to get the page search window and type in a single word that you think may be what you are looking for, such as "notation" or "harmony" or whatever. Then hit Enter, check the first find, if that isn't it, hit enter again until you've persused the entire long page.

The PGMusic FAQs were created from these very forum pages for this very reason and is an ongoing project that grows literally by the month.

It is better and faster than searching through thousands of forum posts.

Can't understand why folks seem to refuse to use it, they could solve a large percentage of your problems in a few minutes' time there.

The FAQs are like having a superuser at your beck and call 24/7.

The FAQ is great, but the posts complement it.

Perhaps those of us who post tips should take the extra effort to send them to PG Music for consideration as a FAQ, as they invite us to do. One problem is in recognizing when a tip is 'ready' since often a solution develops in a thread. Indeed, although some of what I've written has become part of the FAQ, I think my better contributions on the forum are of a diagnostic nature, rather than dispensing tips suitable for a FAQ. The older threads had a wealth of knowledge.

my version of this is to keep a NOTES.TXT file for each program I use, and when I see useful information on a forum or newsgroup, I can snip it and add it to my own list. Advantages of this approach are:

1) everything in the list is important to ME
2) smaller list, easier to search
3) it gives me control of the solution, thereby relieving the frustration of someone else solving it in a way that doesn't meet my needs
4) I know exactly where my list is stored, and never have to search for it
