I see that CoyoteWT shows up in Sonar 32-bit and 64-bit as an insertable synth.
It will insert in 32-bit Sonar, but not in 64-bit Sonar.
I guess Coyote only runs in 32-bit apps or am I doing something wrong?

What version of Sonar are you using? You might look into Bitbridge, which should enable you to use the 32 bit Coyote with Sonar 64 bit. You might get better answers on the Sonar forums.

Bitbridge will not work with DXis. It only works with VSTis.
64 bit Sonar will not load 32 bit DXis. There are some DXi wrappers that MAY work, google is your friend, but from what I have read they only work on a few 32 bit DXis; I have no experience with them. If they are free what do you have to loose?
I think my wife has started to show the first signs of dementia. She said she can't remember what she ever saw in me!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Thanks, I thought it was a 64-bit issue, but it isn't in the Sonar excluded DXI list. It's not that important to find a wrapper, I'll use the Cakewalk TTS-1 'equivalent' synth.

Jim everybody's tastes are different but man, the TTS-1 is way, way better sounding than the Coyote WT. But that's just me. All the WT is is your basic freebie sound set that comes with every PC. The only reason it's included with PG products is to give somebody something to play on a 64 bit machine because the Roland VSC that they've been including for years won't work with a 64 bit OS. The Windows wavetable is a pure crap 20 year old set of samples Windows uses for basic sound. Trust me, nobody on the Sonar forum is going to care a hoot about it and they've probably never heard of it because afaik it's purely a PG Music thing. They contracted with Coyote to write some code to make the WT act like a DXi.

I wouldn't even waste my time with the Coyote WT.It's like buying a Ferri with a 3.5HP go cart motor. The TTS-1 is way better but it still sucks. If you're into MIDI get yourself a high quality HW synth & high quality DXi/VSTi synths.

Agreed...I started out with Coyote WT and almost immediately upgraded to their ForteDXi. Its a major improvement but still not the best. Tried the TTS-1, still not satisfied but better than the Forte. Have now upgraded to a Roland Fantom XR and a Yamaha Motif XS rack....both are ROM-plers with 1000's of samples. Both are superior to the ForteDXi and the TTS-1....the Fantom a bit warmer and the Motif a bit cleaner. Both run great on BIAB and RT and because they are hardware-based have super low latency. Buy them used on eBay!

Hey, MountainSide - I know it sounds goo, but I just wanted to make the point that there is also a huge cost difference between a $40 ForteDXi or the Cakewalk TTS-1 and $1200 Yamaha and $800 Fantom. Even for half the price.

Here is the problem based on my limited understanding of this whole business. Just as important as the sound module is the quality of the midi file itself. Midi is programed, so, Bad Midi programing + Expensive Sound Module = Bad sound Bad Midi programing + Cheap Sound Module = Bad Sound OK, so you see where I am going.. Good Midi programing + Cheap Sound Module = Bad Sound Good Midi programing + Expensive Sound Module = Good Sound Actually, I don't even see where this is going... Oh, OK, now I remember, so unless you can contol the programing of your MIDI, there is no sense on spending a lot on the sound module. Go with the $40 ForteDXi or the Cakewalk TTS-1.

Dan, I sort of agree with you.Actually I do agree however some of the newer Styles have been done with controllers vs static programming of midi.If you have a good module that responds to these nuances you'll get good sound.I believe you'll see PG convert all of there Styles so that they are done with real folks using controllers. The drawback here is that at present the Styles are limited to two bar phrases so not as much chance for subtlety. Check these out by my friend Bill; All midi with controllers except the obvious. My Girl Abracadabra Shake Your Booty Fast as You Only Make Believe

Ya he's good. He's been playing the Fraternal Order circuit as a soloist for many years.Gets $450 a night. He's one of the only "bands" that make the club money. He and I grew up together and went to high school in the same class. We've played in a number of bands together. He went solo though about 15 years ago.

Thanks for everyone's comments.
Generally, I use my own files and synths, but occasionally I just want to hear a GM MIDI file to see if it is suitable for some other purpose.
The Coyote is fine for that and TTS-1 is also quite good (even the generic Microsoft synth is ok for simple audition).
Basically, I just want to avoid setting up all the MIDI channels and presets just to hear a MIDI file.
