I am an old BIAB user and have built a ton of charts in BIAB and use them when I gig. I carry around this bulky book and would like to start using my new ipad for this. I don't need backing tunes or anything, just the complete charts like those I have printed. Can anyone tell me how to import these to my ipad? Thanks! Jim

I haven't tried this, but you should be able to Print in BIAB to a PDF Printer driver such as Cute PDF. Write back if you don't know what I mean. There are apps for iOS that read PDF files. I have emailed PDFs to myself as attachments and read them on the iPad.

For my band, I maintain a hidden website with hundreds of charts in PDF format. They look great on my iPad3. This is a more complicated solution but it works perfectly for distributing the music we will play at the next concerts.

I would also think you could put .JPG files on a website or email them. BIAB produces them. I just prefer the PDF standard.

This is an interesting product I've been playing with for this for a while now:
http://www.musicreader.net/
It allows play lists, comprehensive library management, annotation, partial and full page turning, syncing between various platforms (amongst other features) and there is an iPad version.

For a while I was unhappy with the page turning speed on my Win7 slate but this has improved a lot.

I find the sheer lack of size on my 11.7" slate and iPad to be a problem (guess I'm gettign older than I care to admit) but I'm looking at getting around that with this:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Iconia-Dual-Screen-Tablet.49679.0.html
Look Ma, no keyboard, but 2*14" screens. Will also all but eliminate page turn problems too.

I currently have 1500 odd PDFs in my library (some PDFs contain many hundreds of songs as well so there are far more than 1500 songs in it). Navigating large PDFs isn't the best because of processing speed in the slate (it is only an Atom 450), but navigating the library when all the songs are separate PDFs is a breeze, and setting up the play list is easy as.

At the moment I use it exclusively in church, but when I get the Acer I'll start using it on other gigs too, though the Acer will be no good outside.

BTW, I am in no way asociated with this product other than as a user. Marco, the creator, is very responsive, but English is not his first language so it helps to be precise when communicating.

Jean-Mark, that is a killer app! Fifteen bucks!? I've been thinking about doing something similar because I always go to a gig with three books and it's a pain plus no matter now careful I am they get tattered after a few years and I have to replace them. This may finally push me into an IPad even though I've got so much stuff, ya know?

Lawrie I know exactly what you mean about old eyesight. I had a lesson in that at a gig where the young sax player who doesn't use glasses pulled up a song on his phone that wasn't in his book. A phone! He put it on his music stand and was standing the usual distance back and he was reading the chords. At the break I asked him about it and it's an Android app called 4realbook or something like that, it's six bucks. You type in the song name and it comes up. It's not an actual chart just the chords, you have to know enough about the song to figure it out. I put his phone on my stand and sitting at my keyboard I couldn't see squat using my special computer reading glasses. Depressing.

Hey All,

Thanks for the helpful hints. I think I will try Matt's solution with PDF files.

Don't forget the advice from the others. Once you make the PDF, you will want a PDF reader so scrolling the score and other more powerful functions are possible. I'm presently trying both of the apps mentioned.

Yep +1 for igig book. I scanned all my band charts and song words, then saved them as pdf's. (took me a full day to complete) Very easy and quick to find them n igig book. Also the indexed real books are easily accessible.

That's a good decision, because you can do it with what you already have.

PDF's are the thing if your charts are longer than one page. But you can try JPG or PNG for single-page leadsheets. A black-and-white PNG weighs 20-50k, emails easily, and opens instantly in a freeware viewer. No reason not to mix the graphic types if that proves convenient.

You'll do fine,

Larry
