Not to be a smart ass, but why I'm I suppose to be excited about these midi super tracks? I am using Garritan Jazz and Big Band Piano with this and maybe I'm tone deaf, but it doesn't sound all that great to me. I guess I'm going to have to budget for a more expensive sampler like some of the ones mentioned.I am looking at this site http://www.soundsonline.com/Pianos or maybe or here http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/?category=1755. Either way expensive as heck, but you have to spend more money to get better results.The real tracks sound great as usual. Was it worth the 99 dollars? Only time will tell I guess.

Good Questions - Inquiring minds want to know.  Here is a list of "articulations" which a high brow piano synth will recognize. Combining the cc coding in the midi with sounds which recognize and distinquish between these nuances can give the most realistic sound reproduction. Articulations a. sustain b. sustain with pedal c. repetitions d. repetitions with pedal e. soft pedal f. soft pedal with sustain pedal g. staccato h. release trails Along with with: 10-18 velocities per note of sustain and sustain with pedal 8-12 velocities per note of repetitions and repetitions with pedal 5-8 velocities of soft pedal and soft pedal with sustain pedal 16 velocity staccato As I understand it the Midi data in the STs needs to contain all this info to pair with the synth which and "play" this data. So it seems to me that for us to appreciate and understand the Super Midi Tracks we need to know this specific type of informtion about them. Which I have not seen  ! The best synth in the world will not pair well with midi data which does not provide the proper inputs. Right? Why are you midiots NOT asking these questions about ST's? Or am I missing something here?

In the style picker, my installation doesn't show any styles with supertracks. The last 4 entries in the style picker show 0 styles.
When I search for string "supertracks" or "super tracks" in the style picker, I get no hits.
Is there a separate installation for these? What does everybody else see in the list of new styles? Where else would I find styles with supertracks?

I am only using the Jazz and Bossa Acoustic Bass SuperTracks but find the phrasing much better than the 'old' BIAB styles. They still need some work as they throw a 'wrong' note in every so often but am sure this will be corrected. I'll grant that a good piano sound is hard but not impossible to find. I mentioned a few very good sounding soundfonts in other posts that may be worth checking out. I was not that impressed with the piano in the ST demos that used the Garritan JABB. To me, some of the soundfonts sound much better.

My main reason for asking is since I suck at keyboards and forget the guitar I was hoping these super midis would feed my Jazz habit. I guess to be fair I have to really give it more than just ten minutes use. The midis I have used so far just suck with these super midi tracks.Not the fault of PG Music, but the fault of the person who recorded the midi.Jazz songs have such a different feel about them and if they person playing the song isn't playing with feeling then the music will just be a bunch of notes played in a straight line without any interpretation.I guess I'm just expecting to much from the midis I download or maybe I'll have to start buying professional midis.I wish to hell I would have learned the piano or guitar.I envy you people that know these instruments and can play whatever you want.Technically I could enter notes on a keyboard one by one and it would sound awful hence my earlier statement, but I'm striving to find that perfect piece of music that satisfies the soul.BIAB does get me 85% of the way there, I just need to find that other 15%. Special request please. Can you possibly record every Jazz instrument with every conceivable articulation and note and chords and have it ready by Christmas? I mean it would only take four or five 1 TB drives to fulfill my needs and the price I'm guessing would be around 5 thousand dollars.I'd be willing to pay really I would.Oh well,back to my daydreaming.

I'm confused now; if you are downloading and playing MIDI files from the web, how are you incorporating the SuperTracks?

When you import chords from midi files I used the super track for all the chords and melodies.Am I doing something wrong then?I mean it sounds like the melodies.Like I said I don't play piano or guitar so this would be the only way to actually get a song that I have heard onto BIAB.

If you are hearing the same melody as in the MIDI file, then you aren't using a SuperTrack. SuperTracks aren't sounds; they are phrases, just like in a regular BIAB file, but longer in duration and played by a different MIDI engine. The sound you get from them depends on the synth you are using. But they don't play the notes you enter. SuperTracks would replace an existing instrument track (or it would already be there if you chose one of the SuperTrack styles provided by PGMusic), but what it plays will change everytime you press play. Or am I misunderstanding what you are doing and hearing. I just posted a Supertrack-created file that uses a bunch of different synths so you can hear the differences between the synths. I find the articulations of the SuperTracks much better than the standard note-on, note-off found in most of the previous MIDI styles.

Leonard, When a MIDI file is loaded into BIAB, BIAB will usually disable the accompaniment so that the MIDI file can play without conflict. To see if the Style is disabled, look for a cross in the Style window (see below image).  To enable the Style, simply click on the Style window and enable. the Style. Regards, Noel

Thanks for posting this information... it enabled me to discover that I must have missed a step in the first installation. I searched my whole computer for styles named with the convention shown above... none existed, even after installing the latest patch. Also, as stated previously, the style picker showed no styles with SuperTracks.
So, I reinstalled from the USB drive and now they're all present and accounted for. (Maybe I accidentally chose one of the options to keep some of the content on the USB drive.)
I never would have known how to troubleshoot the installation without your followup post. Thanks again!

I have the same problem. I chose option #2 (Real Drums and Real Tracks stay on ext hd). I do see them on the ext hd. I wonder if I can copy them over to my C:\ drive since I really don't want the rds and rts on it. I had some other Norton files ( songs not styles)on my prev. ver. 2012 on my C:\ drive and had to reinstall them all. I contacted support about this and hope to hear back from them next week. FWIW

I've been using my SD2. I decided to try a bass using a super midi track and it sounded a lot better. But, do the super midi tracks only work with a soft synth? I did render this song and it sounds fine. Guess I'm confused a little here.

Rendering only works with a softsynth. So whatever you Rendered used whatever softsynth DXi that was available.
The SD2, being hardware, must be recorded as audio from beginning to end playback in order to have a recording of its sounds.

Hi Mac. I've been rendering with the sd2 for a few years now. I do not have the dxi box checked in the midi setup. I have to select the re render button, in the popup window, to use the sd2. The blue light blinks the whole time the process is taking place. This must be the process you are referring to as recording to audio since the end product is a .wav file with render in the file name. Perhaps rendering is the wrong term to use, but that's what is in popup window. My question really is about the super midi tracks and super midi styles.

I think everyone is making this whole idea of Super MIDI Tracks more confusing then it is.The way PG made styles in the past was to record midi parts BUT they were limited to 2 bars in length so they would record MANY of these 2 bars phrases and let the program string them together.We have all learned and should know that musical phrase are commonly more then 2 bars long. This became apparent with RTs. Not only are the RTs better sounding instruments but they have longer phrases. So now the Super MIDI tracks.They're sort of a hybrid.They are just MIDI parts strung together like the old MIDI parts but they have longer phrasing like the RTs have.BTW they've been doing this with MIDI drums for quite a few years now.If I was a betting man I make a big bet that when PG gets the guys/gals together to make RTs parts those instruments also have some sort of midi interface on them as well.Killing 2 birds with one stone.I bet if you look and listen to the the super midi parts you'll find the exact same RT.
Hope this helps.Oh one last thing. It doesn't matter how good the Super MIDI part is. If your sound module sucks the part will suck.

John, that is the MOST important thing! You are not going to get super sounding tracks with inexpensive GM sound sets. That is why the SD2 is so popular, i.e. a much better sound set.
