I'm planning on using my secondary HD from the ASUS computer I built as an extra data HD for my new Asus All in one.

Where is the secondary HD? They are above each other. The Primary looks like it is on top with the secondary HD in the space below it. Is that correct?

How many cables do I remove? ... the screws that hold it and the ones plugged into the outer edge?

Joan, I have to be honest. Based on those questions, please don't attempt this yourself. You could do serious damage to your computer.

I just got my external enclosure. It seems too small. I got a 2.5 external HDD enclosure.

My HD's look bigger than that. What other sizes do they come in?

HDs in a desktop are usually 3.5" drives while portables often sport 2,5" drives. I doubt that you still have a 5.25" drive.

Depending on how many disks your drive has, the thickness of the drive varies.

You best go to your local dealer and get a fitting external enclosure. If one of your computers already has a USB 3.0 port (blue color) get an appropriate enclosure. It is compatible with USB 2.0) -- so no harm is done if you don't have a USB 3.0 port.

I'm returning the 2.5. I will be waiting until I get my Asus All In One working properly and then possibly continue with this question after I order a 3.5 enclosure.

I'm working with Asus tech support to get my All in One to boot up to Windows. I sent it back once and they reinstalled the system. Upon its return to me I have had 6 failed start ups. It goes to an Asus screen with Press F2, ESC, F9 options. I can turn it off, and it will boot to windows properly after that. But this must have a cause and I'm looking for it.

So far I have done these things:
Defragged C drive
Ran Check Disk (in properties)
Uninstalled Asus Live Update (since it kept asking for permission to change my system) and there weren't any updates that I needed.
Asus says it is an operating system problem.

I need to wait until the next time it fails to boot to Windows to try more things.
Any suggestions:

Defrag and all of that is not going to fix corruption in your operating system. Defrag moves blocks of data around to make them contiguous on the drive. Chkdsk checks for PHYSICAL issues on the drive first, then LOGICAL issues, but only as those issues relate to where the next byte of data is. It will not fix dirty files, and if your OS has corruption, only a clean reinstall will fix it. There IS a repair, but that's on the black diamond slope and not for novice skiers.

As far as using the small drive in the full sized tower, there are conversion kits that are rails you screw to the mini drive and then screw the rails in where the 3.5" drive would normally go. To be honest, I have used those drives with double sided carpet tape with no ill effects.

Honestly, I do not like Asus and would jump on the pile and suggest you return it. I am curious to know this, but I suspect you chose Asus because it was cheaper than other brands. Remember, cheaper doesn't necessarily mean less expensive. Can you put a price on the aggravation you have already gone through?

Thanks, Eddie
I'm going to wait a week or so and see if I get any more failures in the start up procedure. After I uninstalled the Asuslive update it has turned on ok.

Is there any Asus bloatware that could be causing this. What typical bloatware can be taken off.

I do like Asus and could have gotten a less expensive All in One.

Anything that "phones home", like "ASUS can help you! Click here" kind of stuff. The kind of stuff like when you install an HP printer it puts on all that "Photo Gallery", "HP Ink and supplies" crap. Dell does it too. That isn't causing your problem, but it is annoying and taking up space.

Joan,

Running CHKDSK without the "/f" switch doesn't really do anything other than to create a report. Run it again using this command on the command line: CHKDSK /F
Note the necessary space before the /. The "F" means "Fix".

Ok, I'm keeping the Asus All in One and returning the 2.5 HD case.
I removed the Bing Bar, Adobe Reader Speed Launcher and the AI Suite II (which turned out to be the Asus update) That would be 2 separate programs that I uninstalled with Asus updates as a main purpose.
My computer is getting quicker and better now at startup. I might be leaving well enough alone finally.

I ran that program Mac, and I see that if you don't know what you are doing, you CAN remove things you would be better keeping. Some are obvious, but some of the subtle things it finds (with deceiving names) are not dangerous and just take up a few bytes of hard drive space but do no damage if they don't load at startup. Beware using ANY tool like this.

Yes, I ran the program but saw that most of them were very important like Microsoft Office that I had just installed on my new computer. But it was valuable for me in finding that second Asus update program that I didn't know I had. So that was worth the whole process.

I did a Factory Restore on my C drive in the Asus All in One and now have it working beautifully. Asus technicians thought that when they reinstalled the system (I returned it for repairs) it did not fully reset itself.

I gave up the idea of using my old Hard Drives from my previous system. I have 2 Seagate portable external HD's and will make more frequent back ups with this system than I did with my Asus tower.

These All in One's are quite nice.

Hi Joan
I'm in the market for a new desktop which will support dual monitors in HD and was looking at the Asus brand as it seems to rate high in reliability.
In light of the problems you have had would you still recommend Asus.

I'm looking for a desktop computer to handle Photoshop and music production in the $600-$700 range with outlets for my monitors and 1080 HD TV.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Carkins

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo.
