I saw on some Youtube video where the guy said you can do inverted chords with BIAB. I've yet to figure out how. Any tips?

Well, what did the Youtube video say?
I believe this has been a wishlist item for a while, being able to voice chords in a specific way. I will +1 it if it is there. Got to be a way to introduce a character like C%1 when you want the chord to play EGC and C%2 when you want it GCE, with the root inversion assumed if there is no notation.
I had one spot where I wanted a C chord voiced GCE and played over an A in the bass. Would have been great to be able to say C%2/A and get that.
Of course, I could just play it in, but.....
And PS, this forum is for tips you provide to others. Questions should be asked in the other forums.

Okay, Eddie, wrong forum. (I saw thread titles like "Seems like the best place to ask this question Maj7 add 9" and thought this was the place to ask questions in addition to posting tips. But, I guess my question was not the right kind to ask?)
The video said something that I couldn't really understand (the audio was not good) so I can't really repeat what the guy said. It didn't make sense and I didn't think it could be accomplished with BIAB, thus I asked the question here.

The way the chords are voiced in BIAB is determined by the options in stylemaker where each pattern can be assigned different voice leading options.
'Smooth voice leading' will give the fewest note changes from the previous chord in the progression which will often give an inverted voicing.
The 'Transpose' option will keep the order of the notes the same for the next chord so that C E G Bb (C7 voiced as root 3rd 5th 7th ) will become F A C Eb if the next chord is F7.
'Riff voicing' will never transpose the notes of the chord and is often used as a special voicing over a particular chord type which you can also assign.
Otherwise inversions will always be attainable with an alternative bass note C7/Bb for example although as the previous poster says, the exact order of the notes above the bass root will ultimately be decided by how they appear in the pattern notation.
Hope this helps clarify things for you.
Regards
Alan

OK...I've gone back to the main menu and clicked on the general forum THREE TIMES and keep getting sent here...not the Tips Forum.
So, am I in the twilight zone or IS this the right place to ask questions and the wrong place to provide tips to others?

Hi Jim,
I'm currently viewing this thread on the Band in a Box main forum, which is the right place. Perhaps a moderator moved the post from where it may have been or perhaps it was really already in the right place, dunno, but don't sweat the small stuff, this is th right place IMO.
The Style file controls what chord inversions are played, to a certain extent. You've been told above how to edit a Style file to try to get the inversions you may desire. The default situation is that the intelligent system will try to play the inversions much as, say, an accomplished pianist might, if the part in question is a piano part, which, in most cases would be to play the inversion *closest* to the keyboard area where the last chord and the following chord might be. Rather than jumping around. But as explained so well above, there are indeed ways to try to force other voicings.
Be sure to Save that altered style under a New Name (SaveAs) so that you don't overwrite the original BiaB style.

Maybe I have been mistaken and have been using the forum incorrectly. This is the Band in a Box for Windows forum and I have asked many BIAB related questions here. There is another forum for tips and tricks. I this not the proper place to ask BIAB questions?

Hi Todd,
This is definitely the proper place to ask questions for BIAB (Windows) related things.
The Tips and Tricks forum is meant for those people who have made discoveries about things and want to share the information with the world.
Regards, Noel

The way the chords are voiced in BIAB...Alan
Wow, that is very informative. I am not sure I understood it all as I probably am not "there" yet. I will reread that post many times, I am sure.
Thanks Alan.
