I figured SOMETHING out but it seems a bit awkward.
I went back to BIAB and right clicked the Melody patch on the mixer and chose "Custom Midi style". I chose the style that matched the style I used in the song picked strings as the "from track" dropdown. I then loaded DSK strings as the plugin and generated the song. Then imported the song back into RB and generated and I have a strings track that I can successfully change the strings to my liking. I couldn't seem to find the equivalent steps to do this directly in RB.
