I,ve been using BIAB since version 3 and ought not to need to ask such a simple question - I would appreciate help please. My system Intel Core i5 8GB RAM Windows 7 Yamaha NP-V80 keyboard used as controller only. Pianissimo piano sound module. BIAB 2012 I do not use MIDI. I basically use BIAB to give me a first class backing band to my piano. I set up BIAB to use MME drivers with MIDI out set to Midi Mapper or GS Wavetable synth and all plays fine. I then open Pianissimo set to Realtek HD and ASIO4All V2 as ASIO device. Pianissimo plays beautifully. Go back to BIAB and no sounds - I get an error message "Couldn't open the wave device. The likely cause is that another program is using the audio playback or has left the drivers open" Can anyone help please?

Hi Ken, I imagine the problem is ASIO. Most ASIO drivers will only let a single instrument through. Thus when you Pianissimo takes control, BIAB no longer has access to the sound card. I just did a search and ...here's the link to the latest Realtek HD driver. It might worthwhile trying this out. Disclaimer: Please read through the document first. I'm not recommending this file because I know nothing about it. As I didn't want to lose the site, though, I thought it best to post the link. I encourage you to have a thorough look around the web before installing the file.Regards, Noel

Just set Band in a Box to use "MME" Windows Sound drivers instead of ASIO, keeping the ASIO for your main driver to play thru.
If you want to experiment, BiaB ASIO has a checkbox, "ASIO Always On" -- you could try unchecking that and see if your setup can run ASIO on both programs, sometimes it works, sometimes on some setups it won't.

Hi Noel aand Mac,
Thanks for your very prompt replies. I will check both of these out.
Mac, I have BIAB set to MME but I didn't know about the "ASIO Always On" checkbox.
Will revert when I've experimented.
Thank you,
Ken

Hi Noel and Mac,
I did a bit of digging after my last post and also contacted PG Music Support. Support confirmed that "ASIO drivers often take over a device to the extent that another program can't use the sound card, and when that happens, there's very little that we can do about it."
I have. however, discovered a fairly inexpensive solution to the problem. I purchased a Behringer U-Control UCA222 which is a ultra low latency 2in/2out USB Audio Interface which uses ASIO drivers. This enables BIAB and Pianissimo to work together using ASIO drivers

The cheaper solution would have been to set BIAB to use ASIO and set up the thru channel in BIAB to access the Pianissimo. I do this with Sonivox 88 & FM synths. This assuming that you're using RTs for the rest of the band.

Hi John,
Thank you for your reply to my post on Pianissimo. I confirm that I am only using RTs. I would like to try your suggested method but am having a problem finding out how to select Pianissimo in BIAB. Would you be kind enough to give me a quick step-by-step guide as to what to do please. Many thanks, Ken
