Anyone that uses an external sound device for their laptop, please tell me what you use and how you use it. I am using a Behringer UCS-202 plugged into a USB port, but it really isn't any better than the intenal sound, but does give me a better mechanical connection for getting sound from the laptop to a sound system. Thanks, I am anxiously awaiting your suggestions.

I use an Echo Indigo IO , which is a PCMCIA-card. I use it to get the sound from my laptop to a mixer. Have been using it for three years on the road now, and never had a problem sofar.

Hey, Yes, the Indigo is very good. Its been around awhile, and the drivers are solid. If you are willing to spend more and get the BEST possible sound from your laptop, I suggest you check out the Apogee Duet. It is very small, runs off of Bus Power (no power adaptor needed) and the sound is amazing. Very professional. It is pricey, but worth it. You can check out customer reviews at: www.sweetwatersound.com Just type in: Apogee Duet in the search bar and all the info including reviews should come up. Hope that helps, Ed

I couldn't find wether or not the Apogee Duet is compatible with Windows-based computers. It says "ideal for Apple based ...."

I'm under the impression that the Apogee Duet is Macintosh only.
Has something changed? Is it able to run on PC now also?

I have the Express Card slot on my laptop, but found where they have a model for express cards, the IOx. Thanks for the suggestion, I plan to make a purchase in the next few days.
Cheers,
Pete

Will the Echo Indigo IO let me run BIAB and the EWI USB Aria software at the same time on my laptop and do I have to be a "puter techie" to use it? Currently I can only use one program at a time and I'm having trouble trying to use midi yoke. Thanks, Ray
Asus Q500A i7 Win 10 64 bit 8GB ram 750 HD 15.5" touch screen, BIAB 2017, Casio PX 5s, Xw P1, Center Point Stereo SS V3 and EWI 4000s.

In the specs I found:
* Software console for monitoring, metering, and setting levels * Built-in digital mixer provides near-zero latency monitoring * Supports Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) and Macintosh OS X (Jaguar, Panther & Tiger) * Supports pro audio software (WDM Kernel Streaming, ASIO, GSIF (32-bit only), and CoreAudio) * 8 "Virtual Outputs" - run multiple applications at the same time * Low-latency drivers
So I don't think you'll have a problem with running BiaB and EWI USB Aria at the same time. As for the technogeek-bit: Don't worry. In BiaB you can go to the audio preverences and select the ASIO Echo WDM driver. Now you can choose which virtual outputport you want BiaB to use. Since the Aria-software is likely to use the default (0,1) you can set BiaB to use (2,3). I don't know MIDI Yoke, so I can't give you any accurate information on that software. But if you can select an audio output within that program, you can set it to use (4,5). This way every program uses a different virtual output and you'll hear everything at the same time coming from the mini-jack

If you can't get 'em to run with your currnet soundcard then I'd suggest you find out why first.
Attempts to use ASIO drivers in two applications at the same time can be the reason -- try setting one for Windows Sound and the other for ASIO, putting the ASIO on the one where the lowest possible latency is needed.

I have received the Indigo IOx (Express Card) and installed it. It has somewhat better sound than the Behringer USB card I was using. The user interface is very nice with the capability of using 4 stereo inputs and mixing them for one audio output. Not sure how I could use that feature, but nice that it's there.
I had hoped that I could eliminate my isolation transformer and not suffer ground loop noise when connected to external equipment, but that wasn't the case. But without being hooked up to external equipment it is dead quiet when not playing a track.
All in all I am quite happy with it and picked it up from Full Compass for $129, a very good price by comparison with other sources.
