I am also a forumite at Harmony Central. For the past few days, while going to the forum I get this warning:

Reported Attack Page!

This web page at acapella.harmony-central.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system. Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.

Now it's hard for me to believe that a well respected forum with people like Craig Anderton on the staff is an attack page. Perhaps an advertiser is trying to do something wrong.

Does anyone else go there? Do you get the same message?

Here's the warning that Avast popped up:

This looks like a legitimate warning. The problem seems to be ampage.org, which (as Bob points out) is probably an advertiser. Here's the specific problem that FireFox reports to me:
Quote:

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 1198 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 20 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-10-04, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-10-02.

Malicious software is hosted on 1 domain(s), including ampage.org/.

This site was hosted on 2 network(s) including AS13649 (VINS), AS15169 (Google Internet Backbone).

The link to ampage.org gives the following information:

Quote:

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 170 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 40 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-10-04, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-10-03.

Malicious software includes 71 trojan(s).

Malicious software is hosted on 2 domain(s), including lqlonqihgkco.kwik.to/, ocpvdul.sendsmtp.com/.

This site was hosted on 2 network(s) including AS29933 (OFF), AS15169 (Google Internet Backbone).

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?

Over the past 90 days, ampage.org did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.

Has this site hosted malware?

Yes, this site has hosted malicious software over the past 90 days. It infected 12 domain(s), including mylespaul.com/, talkbass.com/, music-electronics-forum.com/.

So this problem isn't unique to Harmony Central.

I think Avast is messing up again. I went to my neighbors to fix an unrelated computer issue.I wanted to do some research first so wanted to go to bing.com to search. Avast reported it as a malicious site and shut it down.

John, you may have hit on it. Avast has become super-sensitive and detecting false positives. It said that I had a malicious infection so I spent several hours last evening trying to track it down, nada!

I read an article recently about the best free AV. Avast, as well as MS Security Essentials rated near the bottom of the pile. I didn't mention it intentionally because a lot of forumites swear by MSSE.

I got an email from Harmony-Central today and when I clicked on several of the links they all opened up with the info I expected and then at the comments for every one I went to there were multiple comments in Arabic. Lots of Arabic.

Whatever...

I get the same issue as Notes - which is a bummer - I just started posting there again in the Casio XW-P1 threads.

I got the same info Don posted when clicking the warning message and I don't use Avast.

I don't think this has anything to do with Avast or any other AV software. My AV software always asks for permission when potentially dangerous things being installed, even programs that I intentionally put on the HD.

Instead I think it is browser-related. In my browser I checked "Block reported attack sites" along with "Block reported web forgeries".

And it is a bummer. I like Harmony Central Forums, they are not brand-specific, there is a nice single and duo forum, and instead of banning political discussion, they have a political forum. They only thing they don't have is an active woodwind forum, "Sax On The Web" does take care of that. HC is a big site with a lot of users, which means there is a great deal of diversity of opinion. Of course, with anything that big, there are a lot of trolls, but they are easy to ignore.

I'll keep trying to get in, but I won't change the security settings on my browser to do so.

If anyone has any more information, please share it with us.

Bigname and popular site like harmony-central, they've GOT to know about it by now.

Give 'em a reasonable bit of time, maybe a couple or three days and check the site again to see if they've responded and cleaned things up.

They seem to have fixed the problem.

The warning appeared early this morning but it's loading now.
